His coaching career consists of stints at Scottsdale Community College, St. Louis University, and the University of Missouri at St. Louis. He has signed multiple major league players from every part of the draft and every level of amateur baseball. He holds a B.S. in education and a Master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Missouri at St. Louis.

    Everyone’s a Scout

    Major league organizations all have the same basic scouting hierarchy: scouting director, (in charge of a MLB team's entire scouting operation both domestic and foreign; works closely with the front office staff; usually has the final say where a player is selected in the draft and what kind of signing package the player with sign) cross checkers, (they will fly across the nation watching players with better set of skills and comparing them with other high profile players and report their findings) area scouts, (trained talent evaluators who travel a section of the country watching baseball athletes and determining whether their set of skills and talents represent what the organization desires are). The area scout is the person you are most likely to interact with the most during your amateur career. Part time and associates scouts are sometimes paid scouts that watch local players in their area and report to the area scout if they feel their abilities are worthy to be seen.

    Once an area scout determines you are a prospect, he needs to gather information, evaluate, and report on your potential ability to become a major league player. But how does an area scout for a Major league organization find you in the first place?

    In most instances an area scout will observe you playing during your high school season, summer travel ball or fall scout league teams. But this is not always the case. The modern area scout will spend many days watching minor league players as well as attending national showcases during the summer. These responsibilities cause area scouts
