In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan is joined by Jared Serre of Washington Hockey Now as they talk about the options available for the next head coach of the Capitals. Pierre LeBrun wrote on Twitter about Laviolette, “This is as much about the veteran coach wanting to hit the free-agent market and bet on himself as it is the team also wanting a new voice behind the bench.” GM Brian Maclellan has said he wants a coach that can work with the young players and the veterans. “We’ll see how it shakes out here,” MacLellan said last month. “We’ll start looking at names and, with our group, talk about different coaches that people know and traits they have. Maybe we have to wait to talk to some assistant coaches that we think are candidates. We’ll see how it goes.”
Later they talk about the latest with Evgeny Kuznetsov and how he appears to be not happy playing hockey in Washington anymore. “We’ll see how it shakes out here,” MacLellan said last month. “We’ll start looking at names and, with our group, talk about different coaches that people know and traits they have. Maybe we have to wait to talk to some assistant coaches that we think are candidates. We’ll see how it goes.”
Later they talk about the draft and what playero r position they should target. Then they talk about how what changes need to be mad before the start of next season for the Capitals to be competitive again
