    About the Author

    The Little League Series

    One

The words someone’s pregnant sprang up throughout the large gymnasium, heating and spreading like a Southern California wildfire without a cloud in sight. Julie shoved past another group of sophomore girls who practically screamed the same gossip everyone else was screaming .

The bodies of her classmates filled up every inch of the tightly packed room and already her Sunny View practice jersey clung to her chest. Softball practice would sure be a blast today when she was already sweating and sticky.

She spotted Paul in the crowd, half-a-head taller than everyone else, his mouth pinched and looking just as uncomfortable as she felt. Julie darted for him and grabbed hold of his arm before the crowd gave another surge and she lost sight of him.

He barely glanced at her. All his attention was on their tubby principal and short, skinny vice principal who carried his trusty ruler like a whip to measure the length of skirts.

    You heard? he asked.

She barely heard him over the gaggling girls behind her. Hard not to.

Teen pregnancy happened. Everyone knew that.
