So before I tell you my story, there are a few things you should know about me. The first thing is, I don’t typically do crazy stuff. Ever. Which is kind of why I went to the club that night. Just so I could go do something crazy that I never had before. And never really planned to do again.

I was working as a secretary at the time for the prestigious law firm, Johnson and Roy. I was pretty happy there and my worst sin was the occasional fantasy of sleeping with my boss, who happens to be really hot, but also happily married. I lived in a decent sized apartment with my cat Chester. And I was happily single after ending a three year bad relationship. I considered it a wild night if I stayed up past 10pm watching rented movies and pigging out of Ben and Jerry.

I drank socially but never got drunk. Or I pretended to drink, anyway, usually putting a tiny splash of alcohol in my cup and drowning it with juice or soda. I always wore conservative clothing, even when I wasn‘t at church or work. I usually had salads for lunch. One of my favorite hobbies was curling up in bed with a good romance novel while listening to soft music. In other words, I was boring. But I didn’t know I was boring because I was content that way. That was, until I found the magazine.

In the waiting room, we have a small coffee table that we keep stacked with old magazines, kind of like a doctor’s office. We get a lot of clients and sometimes when they come in without an appointment or they come in too early, they have to wait out there. It’s really a comfortable waiting room, as they go.

Well, the day that changed my life was a Thursday. A woman came in wanting to speak to my boss. She didn’t have an appointment and he was out, so she decided to wait. It was only for fifteen minutes, which is when he got back from his meeting. He then ushered her into his office and the woman left a magazine she had been reading open on her chair.

Part of my job, of course, is to keep the waiting room in order, so I got up and walked over to put the magazine back where it belonged on the table. It turned out to be one
