History of Sumo
The origin of sumo has been a mystery for thousands of years. Most people believe it began between the Jomon period (14,000 BC–300 BC) and Yayoi period (300 BC–300 AD) where the ancient hunter-gathers became cultivators. At the time, sumo wasn’t considered a sport, but rather as a prayer to god for a year of good harvest ahead.
