Change That Adapts

About this ebook
In The United Methodist Church how do we go forward instead of doing the same old thing?
Do we go forward and live, or do we do nothing--and die?
New structure, four areas of focus, guaranteed appointments, a new retirement program, new judicial council members, elimination of commissioning: General Conference 2012 will address these and other issues, and we can expect some changes. We should anticipate some change. Many people, and churches, are resistant to change. As one articles in a recent issue of Circuit Rider magazine stated, "Some churches would rather be happy and dying than challenged and growing."
Things will change and this book will assist churches to effectively deal with the inevitable changes. This will provide guidance as to why we need to change, obstacles to change, methods of change, change and conflict and conflict resolution--all in the context of a local United Methodist church.

by Rev. Jabe Fincher, Jr.
Introduction
Change that adapts- it seems redundant doesn’t it? But that is only if you merely look over it and go on. On closer look it is compelling and transforming. In this case change can mean modification, alteration, alter, shift and so forth. Also in this case adapts can mean conforms, or adjusts. This is the essence of this paper. We must have change in our local United Methodist churches that conforms or adjusts the world to the Gospel of Christ.—or, another word that has been used is transforms. It must be about transformation of the world.
This began as a project for a class I was in at Asbury Theological Seminary. I was also inspired by the recent Call to Action in The United Methodist Church. The denomination in the United States has been in decline and
