    THE CHARACTERS:

    DCI Rowan Kroupa – a detective

    Johan Hendrych - Kroupa's friend and a reporter

    Sergei Zlotkov – a student

    Ron Black – a student

    Xue Cheng – a student

    Yan Cheng - Xue's father

    Barman

    Muriel – A Madam

    Li – a prostitute

    Prostitute

    Sun – The boss of a Chinese gang

    Tuan – The boss of a Vietnamese gang

    Rong – The member of a Chinese gang

    Jeff - a young soldier

    Throsby - Jeff's superior

    Shu – The manager of a Chinese market

    The action takes place in and around an unidentified university, its canteen and bar; a brothel; Cheng's flat; Sergei's place; an army unit; and a Chinese market.

    The staging derives from the Elizabethan stage with main three sections and entrances, scrim curtains and judicious lighting allow for an almost Brechtian, epic style of theatre, complete with a screen upstage centre, for back projection (P).

    Music is indicated by (M), fades away with action.

    Scene 1

    Centre Stage. Light. Left and Right parts of the stage are dark

    P = Old University building.

    M = Gaudeamus Igitur - fades to silence when Sergei start to speak

    In front of the university building.

    SERGEI. What about her. (He points to XUE who is passing upstage) There.

    RON. I would …

    SERGEI. I bet you would... if you could.

    RON. I've never had an Asian girl… Fuck she’s hot.

    SERGEI. I bet I could teach her to talk properly.

    RON. Huh?
