INT. KITCHEN – NIGHT (PRESENT)
ESTHER, female, pretty, early 30s, is wrapped in a blanket, trembling in shock with a hot drink. RON, female, mid 30s, is wearing a black hoody.
ESTHER
I made a mistake. It was a thoughtless moment. I was frozen, I mean, I wasn´t seriously...
RON
So it was a joke?
ESTHER
(sharply)
No.
(muddled)
...Then I thought in this way I could get rid of him.
RON
(gasps)
You stupid... uh.
ESTHER
I just wanted to have... something.
I've been single my whole adult life, that's not normal.
Ron is horrified.
RON
You said you don't find him attractive. What is wrong with you.
ESTHER
I don't understand why you're so angry. I don't connect to people, At least I didn't until I met him. In my head at some point I did find him attractive. When he touched me, it was another story.
INT. JACK´S HOUSE – NIGHT (A FEW MONTHS BEFORE)
Ron is laying in bed with her eyes closed listening to a conversation. She´s wearing skimpy nightwear and covered with a sheet. It´s dark except for some light coming through a skylight and an opened door.
BECKY VOICE (O.S.)
(playful)
I´ve brought some people, they´re here to meet you.
JACK VOICE (O.S)
I´m coming. Hang on.
SPRAY sound. The door CLOSES and Ron is left almost completely in the dark. She opens her eyes. LAUGHTER from behind the closed door comes from a handful of people. From behind door:
BECKY VOICE (O.S.)
You promised when we got back we´d have a party. Throw your guest out.
JACK VOICE (O.S.)
She´s sleeping.
MALE VOICE (O.S.)
Are they your drawings?
JACK VOICE (O.S.)
Yeah.
BECKY VOICE (O.S.)
(chants party
)
Jack. Chuck out so we can par-ty.
EXT. STREET with SPACIOUS OLD HOUSE - DAY
Esther is walking along. Ahead of her, DAVID is smoking on the path outside the spacious, old residence. He observes Esther, eyes her up, then jogs indoors.
ESTHER
(to herself)
You look at me like that, then you run away.
EXT. ZOO - DAY (LATER)
Esther and Ron are wandering in a zoo. Ron gives her a ticket.
RON
Your ticket.
ESTHER
Great.
RON
I hope the bear is awake.
...Jack reminds me of a bear.
ESTHER
In what sense?
You multi date and none of your dates treat you right.
RON
They must all think they're too good for me.
A foreign YOUNG MAN smiles at Esther.
YOUNG MAN
Hello.
ESTHER
(shyly)
Hi.
Young Man continues to stare.
YOUNG MAN
I like you a lot. Can we maybe meet later?
Ron walks ahead.
ESTHER
I've got plans, sorry.
YOUNG MAN
Can I have your number?
Esther scurries away.
ESTHER
I'm in a rush.
YOUNG MAN
Have you got a boyfriend, are you meeting him later?
ESTHER
(nervous)
Yeh.
RON
(under her breath)
No.
YOUNG MAN
Ok. I understand. That's a shame. I really like you.
Esther looks politely to him as she runs to join Ron.
RON
I didn't know you were that shy.
ESTHER
They're all too young for me.
RON
He wasn't that much younger. Live a little. Have some fun.
They reach a souvenir shop.
INT. SOUVENIR SHOP - DAY
ESTHER
He was younger though.
RON
I
