About this ebook

Veronica Cruz has been through hell and back. After disconnecting with the world two years ago to be at the side of her dying mother, she’s left alone, unemployed, overweight, and feeling a decade older than her twenty-eight years. When her best friend coaxes her into joining the local gym to ditch her depression and rejuvenate her life, she meets Noah. Assigned to help Veronica lose weight, Noah is everything she expected a young trainer to be—perfectly chiseled, supportive and motivating. Add to that, he’s incredibly sexy. He’s everything she’s ever looked for in a man. What she least expected was for him to fall for her, but he has. There's just one glaring problem: Noah is eight years younger.

Noah Quintanilla has his eye on a boxing title—someday. Down for a few months with an injury, his maintenance-boy pay at 5th Street Gym won't cut it. He’s finally given the opportunity to train. The catch? His trainee is an out-of-shape woman with a free week pass. Taking on the challenge, Noah stumbles into one of the closest friendships he’s ever known, and before he knows it, he’s in love. But Veronica’s not having it—the age difference is too much. Their platonic relationship means having to watch her date other men—something that would make him crazy. Believing he's the man for her, Noah sets out to prove that age is but an illusion, and there's more to him than just a number.

Generally speaking, I agree with the premise of the book that age is just a number. But I think there are times in our lives when it does represent a true barrier and the ages Noah and Roni were at is one of those times. So while I thought the dynamics of the relationship and the premise were - generally speaking - pretty believable and well-written, I had a hard time buying their relationship on any kind of level of other than a shallow, physical one. I think the story would have worked much better had Noah (and maybe even Roni) been at least two to three years older - at an age where he would be just about ready to exit college if he had gone. That would have felt a lot more natural to me. As it was, Noah's age made him feel way too young for someone Roni's age, despite his rough background; and in the end, I couldn't suspend belief long enough to really buy the story.

Veronica is a 28 year old, overweight, unemployed woman with issues stemming from having to care for her ailing mother until her death a year ago. Roni, as her friends call her, has lost contact with the outside world, no friends, no intimate relationships, just a couch, TV and a bowl of ice cream. Until she is finally convinced by her one true friend to join a gym. That's where she meets Noah, her personal trainer. He shows a confidence in her that she doesn't see herself. But she finally whips into shape and begins her life again. And Noah, wants very much to be a part of that life. However, he's only 20 years old and a kid to Veronica. Will he show her how much of a man he really is, or will he prove to be just another distraction to keep Roni from her goals?Pretty good story line here, just a little long and drawn out I thought.

I am a big fan of Elizabeth Reyes and I have to admit I put off reading this book for a while thinking it wouldn't be as good as her Moreno Brothers series. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story. Although I didn't completely fall in love with the characters the way I did with Angel, Alex, Sal and the rest of the gang, I definitely think this was a great beginning of a new series that I will be sure to read.

As a dedicated fan to the Moreno series I know that any fan of Elizabeth Reyes will want the answer to one question, how does this series measure to the Moreno's series? All I can say is be prepared to fall in love all over again. Noah and Veronica are two amazing characters, and the sparks that fly when they collide will leave readers craving even more. The age difference was quite a unique aspect to build this story, but it really worked and I absolutely loved it. Noah being an adopted child and seeing so much at such a young age really evened the scale for these two characters. Once Veronica could see what she was missing it was all over for the both of them. This particular book was more like Always be Mine (book 1 Moreno series) with the story detail and slower pace as you build the characters and story from scratch, but I am hoping to see the series push on just like the other and build with each additional book. Reyes promises all of the same intensity and drive that we have come to love, and will leave you begging for the next book to hurry up and get here. I see that the next book is about Gio, and I this has me thrilled. As with the most recent Moreno novel that spotlights Sal; I am overly anxious for Gio's book with their similar personalities. Both of these characters exude a persona of quite and deadly; this make such a bitter sweet story when you get to see the peeling back of their layers. BOOKWHISPERER RECOMMENDATION!!!! BOOKWHISPERER FAVORITE SERIES!!!!!
