About this ebook

What would you do if you had to change high schools right before your senior year? What would you do if you went from being one of the popular to being one of the bullied?

Ryan Harris is forced to change schools when her step-dad accepts a job two hours away from her home town of Kansas City. In KC everyone knows that Ryan is the daughter of starting pitcher for the KC Critters Tyler Yates. Now that Ryan is in Temple she decided to keep her famous dad to herself and make her way through high school the same as every other teenage girl. What Ryan was not prepared for was Bradley Thomas.

Brad Thomas is the starting pitcher for Temple High and the reining king of the school, who has lost his pitching edge. On the first day of school he sees the nerdy new girl walking down the "elite" hallway and takes his bad mood out on her. Brad lets Ryan know that he does not like little upstarts with a bad attitude. From that day Brad has made it his mission to mess with Ryan.

Ryan wants nothing more than for Brad to just go away and leave her alone. Ryan sees a way to get Brad to leave her alone by helping him get his pitching mojo back and she takes it. After Ryan helps Brad when no one else would or could all he wants is to get closer to her. Brad needs to show Ryan that he is really a good guy and that he is truly sorry for ever bullying her.

Will Ryan forgive Brad?

Will Brad ever get the girl?

There is only one way to find out if this one-time bully can change his stripes and get the only girl that has ever stood up to him. Ryan's Home Run is a story of a bully who sees his victim in another light and now must fight to make her is. This book is filled with humor and "mean girls" who think that they can win against nerds. There is occasionally strong language but is otherwise clean. There is a guaranteed Happy Ending.

    Ryan

Today is the first day of my senior year of high school, yippee. I am starting all over this year. New school, new town, and hopefully new me. It’s not that I was unpopular at my old school. In fact, I was part of the in crowd, only not on my own merit. See my dad is a starting pitcher for the Kansas City Critters and when you go to school two miles from the stadium everyone knows who you are. Don’t get me wrong I love my dad and could not be prouder of him, but I am excited to just be me Ryan Allison Harris. I should probably explain the first name Ryan. Well, I was named after my dad’s best friend and the current catcher for the Critters— Ryan Larkin. This would not be a big deal except for the fact that I am a girl. In Kansas City everyone knew that I was named after my godfather and just called me Ry, but I am hoping that this year I can keep my famous dad and his friends a secret.

Hey you. I look around because I don’t know anyone yet, so I am sure that the boy yelling down the hall can’t possibly be talking to me. Yeah, you new girl. What do you think you’re doing walking down this hall? Listen new girl I am only going to tell you this once, so you better listen closely. This hall is only for the elite and you are a nobody. By looking at you I can tell that you’re going to stay a nobody, so I better never see you in this hall again. Do you get me? It is at this point I hear a girl call out Brad why are you talking to this nerd? and then the laughing starts. Yes, I am a nerd. I wear graphic tees, glasses, and no make-up, but who cares? I just shake my head and make my way to the office to pick up my schedule and locker assignment.

Hi, I am new here and I was told this is where I can come and pick up my schedule and locker number. My mom and step-dad came in and registered me over the summer.

Yes, you must be Ryan Harris. I am going to need you to take a seat we are going to have to redo your schedule. We thought you were a boy and placed you in an all boys gym class and now need to rework all your classes. Why did this school even have an all boys gym class to begin with I think to myself as I watch the secretary scurry down the hall?

That is fine should I wait here? I ask pointing at the chairs in front of her desk, but she is already back in the guidance office explaining that the new student Ryan was a girl. I swear you would think that my mom would have told them this when she registered me.

Ryan Harris I am going to need you to come back here, so we can try and figure this out. I hear being called from down the hall where the secretary disappeared to.

Hello Ryan, I am Mr. Pickens and I work in the guidance office. It seems that there was a small misunderstanding and now we need to make some changes. Let’s have a look, shall we? It looks like you are in AP English, AP Statistics, and AP Biology. We only have those classes during certain periods so those are going to have to stay the same. Now we can take your art class away and give you a different elective or we can keep things as they are. Just know you will be the only girl in 6th period gym. This class is usually for our male athletes, but there is no rule stating you can’t join it.

I would really like to keep my art class if that is at all possible. I explain to Mr. Pickens that art is how I unwind, and I don’t think I can get through my course load without it. I have always taken art and have no problem dealing with a bunch of jocks as long as I get to keep my favorite class.

Well, in that case we will keep things how they are. I hope you enjoy your time here at Temple High, and please know that if you ever need anything you can come talk to me. I have an open-door policy.

Thanks, Mr. Pickens, I will let you know if there is anything I need. As I was just about to leave Mr. Pickens calls out, you wouldn’t be the daughter of Tyler Yates, would you? I look at him confused, trying to figure out how he knew this. Yes, I am. How did you know that, and can I ask you to keep that little tidbit to yourself please? He assures me that my secret is safe with him before telling me he is a season ticket holder and has seen me before, and with that I head off to find my first period class.

I am ten minutes late to my history class and hate the thought of walking in and having everyone look at me.

Hi, my name is Ryan and I am new here. I tell the teacher who looks at me annoyed that I interrupted his speech about what will be expected of each student this year.

Yes, I was expecting a new student ten minutes ago when class started. Please grab a book quickly and then take a seat so I can continue with my lesson. Ok I am obviously not going to be his favorite student I think to myself as I do what I am told.

Hey, new girl. Why in the hell did your parents name you Ryan? Man, they must have been so disappointed when you came out a girl. I have never seen this kid in my life and can’t figure out how I offended him or what I did that demands this kind of welcome. I do recognize the boy sitting right behind him giving him a high five. He is the same obnoxious boy that told me I was not allowed to walk down the elite hallway. I just turn away and hope that if I ignore them then they will find something or someone else to occupy their time. I get out my notebook and start taking notes on the lecture that was being given when all the sudden something hits me in the back of the head. I look down and see that someone has thrown a piece of paper at me. I once again turn back to my notes and pray that this class ends soon.

The bell finally rings, and I grab my stuff in hopes of getting out of the classroom before the boys that have decided to be my welcome committee catch me. I am just turning to head down the hall towards my next class when I hear Ryan and I can’t completely smother the groan that comes out as I hear my name being called. Yes?

I just wanted to make sure you understand that we don’t like new people who come in to our school and think they are better than they are.

Look dude I didn’t know that your hallway was sacred ground. I promise to never step foot on such hallowed ground again if you will please just leave me alone.

Ryan. Ryan. Ryan you obviously are not listening. It is not just the hall it is your whole attitude. Now I am going to give you this chance to apologize to me and my crew. Say Brad I am so sorry that I bothered you with my presence. Will you please forgive me? I know I am looking at this jerk like he grew a second head when I hear the kids in the hall start laughing and chanting his name.

Brad I am so sorry that you are peaking in high school and have no future to look forward to. I am sorry that I have offended you with my ability to see through this act you are putting on for your peers, but Brad I am mostly sorry that you will remember this for the rest of your life. As for me I am going to forget you as soon as I turn around. Now this might not have been my smartest idea, but I was so tired of these people and it had only been an hour. Just as I finished my little speech and looked at the shocked faces of my peers did it hit me that I was talking louder than need be, and that I may have made a huge mistake.

Oh, Ryan you have no idea what you have done. Don’t worry babe all you have to do is ask real nice and I’ll think about allowing you your invisibility back. Until then know you are not going to find one person in this school that will have anything to do with you. I turn on my heel and make my way to my next class thinking about how much I miss home and my old friends.

    Brad

It is the first day of my senior year and I am scared shitless. I hurt my pitching arm skateboarding over the summer and I have not been able to throw right since. Just as I am having my mental breakdown I see a girl I have never seen before. She is pretty in a very nerdy way. She is wearing a shirt that says, NASA your mom thought I was big enough signed Pluto. Don’t get me wrong the shirt is funny as hell, but if you add that with the thick black glasses, messy ponytail, and bare face you get someone who does not belong in the elite hallway. I am just pissed enough about my arm that I start in on the new girl before I even know what I am doing. I have just finished acting like the jerk that I know I can be when Heather comes around the bend and asks why I am even talking to the nerd. I dated Heather in the past and have no desire to make that mistake again. Even knowing that I would rather chew off my pitching arm then get with Heather ever again she is elite, and therefore I am nice to her while laughing at the nerd.

Pushing the new nerdy student to the back of my head I listen to all my friends talk about how this is going to be the best year of our lives and think to myself way to have low standards guys. Don’t get me wrong I plan to live it up this year. I mean seriously I am a senior and have already secured an athletic scholarship to Kansas University. That is if I can figure out what the hell I did to my arm and how to fix the damn thing before KU finds out that I am not as good as when they signed me. As I was saying this year I am all about playing, partying, and girls. Lots of girls, I have no time for a girlfriend and need to make sure Heather knows this. I plan to stay single this year but that does not mean I don’t plan to hook up. I figured out a long time ago when you are 6’4, the starting pitcher, and have the looks that girls describe as Abercrombie I can get any girl I want. For some reason as I am thinking over the girls that I want the nerd pops back in to my head. Damn that girl is cute but so far beneath me I should really stop thinking about her.

I didn’t realize that I was standing there like an idiot not saying
