About this ebook
Matron, Elizabeth Waverly, and her care home helper, Norman Christie, take great delight in abusing residents at an old-age peoples home. Norman in particular loves his bit of sport on bath nights; he likes dunking their heads and watching them choke. Unfortunately for them, the rising death count hasn't gone unnoticed.
After a police investigation they are arrested, found guilty and sentenced to eleven years in prison.
On their release in the year 2000 the future looks grim. Then, after a chance encounter, Elizabeth and Norman team up and see an opportunity to inherit two million pounds; but first they have to kill the main beneficiary and former work colleague, Elizabeth Carragher, with Elizabeth Waverly taking on her identity.
At the reading of the will they see their plans back fire when a second will is produced and a long lost brother, Victor Carragher, turns up and claims it all. Salvaging what they can, they plan to kidnap the brother’s young daughter, Helen, for half the inheritance.
Before the kidnap can be arranged, Victor Carragher, a hotel manager, very quickly fulfills a life long ambition and moves to Majorca with his daughter to buy his own hotel. The killing couple follow him, with Elizabeth Waverly still impersonating his sister and helping the brother run his new hotel.
Elizabeth and Norman bide their time, waiting for a kidnap opportunity. But unbeknown to them, the hotel Victor purchases is haunted.
The hotel Hanukkah, dubbed by the press as the hotel of horrors, sees many grizzly deaths and accidents; notably the former hotel owner, Reuben, whose eaten alive by his guard dogs. This also includes the convenient death of Norman, Elizabeth's accomplice, and anybody else who threatens her cover.
Living the good life with her deception still intact, the kidnap plan is put on hold. That’s until Victor’s daughter, Helen, spots her as an impostor. Now she must kill Helen. Later she reads in a British newspaper, the body of Victor’s real sister has been found. Now she must kill Victor before the police trace him, and then find her.
On Halloween night the hotel Hanukkah gives a party that reveals the underlying evil it has always harbored within its walls. At the same time, Elizabeth Waverly is confronted by her ultimate nightmare; a hotel guest, Lynn Whatts, finds the grizzly remains of a young girl hidden behind a bath panel. It is the murdered body of Victor’s daughter, Helen.
Elizabeth, in a frenzied attempt to hide the truth, must kill Victor and the hotel guest who discovered her crime.
In an orgy of murder and revenge, Elizabeth kills Victor then confronts Lynn Whatts in her hotel room. As she tightens the dressing gown cord around Lynn’s neck, the ghosts of Reuben’s guard dogs appear. They want revenge having been blamed for killing Victor’s daughter.
On their stomachs creeping towards her, Elizabeth backs out onto Lynn’s hotel balcony. She knows her time has come.
As she stands on the balcony rail, she shrieks out the sermon her religious stepfather had installed into her with his liberally wielded trouser belt - For as ye have sown, so shall ye reap.
Surrounded by the dogs she leaps off. Then down below their follows the awful high pitched screams of a feeding frenzy as Lynn hears Elizabeth Waverly being ripped to pieces; followed by the distant rumbling of a fading storm.
Lynn Whatts’s near death experience releases her true feelings for her holiday companion and gay best friend, Margaret Gaynor. Together now, Margaret helps Lynn overcome her reoccurring nightmares of the events. They both cuddle up together; their naked bodies giving each other warmth. And the dreams after that come sweet for Lynn.
But, Elizabeth Waverly is not dead. Unbeknown to Lynn and the police, she survives the fall. She quickly butchers German tourist, Frieda Kaufmann, beyond recognition, to take her place as the victim of the attack by the dogs.
