Book three – The Magic Pebble & The Glimmering Lake

Jack sat eating his breakfast as fast as he could, shovelling in every mouthful of Cheerio’s before he had even finished the last mouthful. One hand was in his pocket holding the warm magic pebble firmly as it is could escape at any second. He was in a hurry to finish up and go outside but frustratingly his mother was making him sit at the table and finish his breakfast. One leg was slowly creeping off the side of his chair in the hope his mother hadn’t seen.

Jack I have told you a million times not to get down from the table until you’ve finished! His mother said firmly, exaggerating how many times she had actually told him.

But mum I want to get out in the sunshine, please? pleaded Jack looking sorry for himself.

When you have finished your bowl of cereal and your glass of water, then you can go and play

Jack looking glum continued to stuff huge spoonful’s of breakfast into his mouth.

Morning Jack, you are looking glum today what’s the matter? Asked his dad coming into the kitchen from the living room. Jack’s mother gave her husband a knowing look and rolled her eyes. Oh I see, now if you don’t finish your breakfast you’ll never grow into a big strong boy and be able to help me on the farm you know

With that, Jack thrust the spoon down into the bowl and said finished, can I get down now please?

Ok go on off with you and make sure you come back at lunchtime! shouted his mother as Jack was already racing off out the back door and into the sunshine. The last time Jack had used the magic pebble to go to Pebbleland he had helped a very sad purple dragon with very small wings. He wondered if he’d get a chance to see him again or whether the dragon had flown off to be with his own kind.

Jacks parents were farmers and so there were plenty of places to hide and play including one of his favourite spots which was a small velvety green hill topped with a small wood. He rushed out of the farm yard and headed up the hill still holding onto the warm and shiny pebble. As he ran down the little lane to the bottom of the hill he saw his friend Sally riding her beautiful chestnut horse trotting along
