    Chapter 1

    The List

    Irma Hedgenson checked the cleanliness of her house with a white glove. As always, Irma had her maid follow her during final inspection. They were in the living room when Irma took off the glove and sat on her favorite Victorian chair complete with a matching ottoman.

    Well, Helen, besides the back of the television being a bit dusty, I’d say you did an adequate job. Not the best work I’ve seen from you, but acceptable. Half a job deserves half-pay wouldn’t you agree?

    Yes Mrs. Hendgeson, Helen stood across the room from her with a solemn expression.
