    Synopsis

Amber is eight years old and lives in a quiet suburb with her dad and her dog, as she lost her mum when she was four in a car accident. Her life changes when she comes across an old, battered-looking leprechaun in her grandad’s shed one day that used to belong to her mum. She runs her fingers back and forth across the shiny shamrock on its hat while daydreaming about being a singer. Suddenly a green door appears in the wall. She enters and finds herself in a green office with a little old lady that tells her she has exactly an hour with Leprechaun Travel, and to enter the door to her right. She has various adventures through this door.

The book is comical in places and tells of her life at school and characters in her class, the teachers and her friends and family. It’s a little romantic too, as her dad and her best friend’s mum become more than just friends.

She meets the Keeper of the leprechaun, who is there to make sure no harm comes to the leprechaun. She warns her about the green goblins that will try and steal the leprechaun’s magical powers and how to recognise them and kill them. The Keeper has magic powers to help her with her job of protecting them.

    Chapter 1

Amber Bell was an attractive yet unusual looking eight-year-old girl. She had long, wavy, dark red hair. Big green, almond-shaped eyes, and a small, slightly turned-up nose, with a pale complexion. She lived with her dad and her dog, in a small suburb on the edge of a large town called Bingsley Bagshot. They lived in an average house, on a tree-lined avenue with a small gravelled driveway where her dad’s rather battered, old, yellow van sat.

Amber’s mum, Ruby, had died in a car crash when she was four years old, so Amber had few memories of her mum. However, there were lots of photos of her mum around the house, so she was always in their thoughts. Amber was the image of her mum. When she looked at the photos of her mum, she saw what she would look like in the future and remembered what her mum had looked like in the past. Amber’s dad was called Charlie and he was a plumber. He was a tall and very slim with a mop of unruly, wavy blonde hair. He was a very kind and energetic man, always busy and always in a slight state of confusion, as he was usually trying to do at least two things at once. He always had a tape measure in his pocket, a pencil behind his ear and a cup of tea balancing precariously on the nearest object he could find, usually a pile of books or boxes. The house was nicely furnished, but never very tidy and always looked slightly cluttered. They had not been on holiday since her mum had died, as money was tight. After they paid the mortgage, bills, and for food, there was nothing left over and, being a plumber, Charlie’s work was unpredictable.

They had a Shetland sheepdog puppy called Bailey. He was a fluffy bundle of fun and mischief and followed Amber wherever she went. Amber liked to take Bailey to see her nan and grandad who lived one street down from them. She put on her best teal-coloured dress, found Bailey and put on his leash, and a red-and-white spotty bandana and set off. Her grandparents were both Irish and they both doted on Amber. They had lost their daughter but they still had a granddaughter. They were thankful that on the day a mindless van driver had crashed into their daughter’s car, while texting on his mobile phone, that Amber had not been in the car too, with her mum.

She could see her grandparents’ house in the distance. It stood out from the other houses as her grandad had built it himself. He used to be a builder in his younger days. It was tall and narrow with three floors, green roof tiles and, at present, had huge sunflowers
