About this ebook

Here are a few great things about the NYU Stern School of Business:

• Stern has a part-time MBA program – the only one at a major bschool in the Northeast
• Stern has exceptional resources and support for career changers
• Stern is centrally located downtown NYC, in Greenwich Village
• Stern has a new building that opened in 2010
• Stern is close to multiple subway lines that run all over the city – if you're not from New York, you may not appreciate how much this matters!

Stern also has put its money where its mouth is when it comes to diversity. Stern recently had a female dean (undergraduate dean Sally Blount, who's now dean at Kellogg) and currently has a black dean (Dean Peter Henry – the only black dean at any major bschool).

A focus on teamwork and collaboration permeates every aspect of the Stern culture, from the classroom to the clubs. Community is even a factor in their application evaluation process.

All this – plus of course a top-notch graduate business education – adds up to a distinctive school in one of the greatest cities on Earth. And, one with very competitive admissions! Stern has a similar acceptance rate to Columbia, and they both have great finance programs, but that's about where the similarities end.

If you're serious about NYU, you need to take a fresh approach to their essays. EssaySnark can show you how.

Essay Snark

Essay Snark is an MBA admissions consultant who is sometimes amused and often appalled by what candidates write in their MBA essays to top bschools. Essay Snark shares others' mistakes, so you don't make admissions directors laugh or, worse, want to hurl when they read your essays. If you, intrepid applicant, want to have your essay reviewed by Essay Snark (and posted anonymously - yes everyone will see it), email it to gethelpnow(at)essaysnark(dot)com. Emailing your essay means you give explicit permission for it to be posted (obvious identifying information such as your name and the name of your employer will be removed), and you release Essay Snark from any claims that may result from possible humiliation over said snarkiness. How NYU Is Different from Columbia

Let's just get this out of the way. NYU Stern is a great business school. Columbia is a great business school. They largely compete for the same students. If you're applying to Stern, chances are exceedingly high that you're applying to Columbia.

Yet Stern and Columbia could not be more different.

Beyond the fact that they both offer a top-notch MBA education in the city of New York, and both are strong in finance, there's not much more that's the same.

    They do admissions differently

They look for (somewhat) different students

    They have (vastly!) different cultures

Here's a few things that Stern has that Columbia does not:

    Stern has an undergraduate program

    Stern has a part-time MBA program –
