About this ebook
This book is aimed at small publishers who want to start a digital magazine. Maybe you are on your own or perhaps you intend to collaborate with one or two partners. You also have an idea concerning a niche market lacking a digital magazine, at least a good one.
This book will guide you through the process of setting up a website and helps you to start up a regular news flow and finally, but significantly, show you how to make money.
This is not the kind of ‘get rich in a month’ book you see frequently when it comes to making money on the internet. Running a magazine – also a digital magazine – is hard labor. It will cost you a lot more than a month to earn your first income. And you will probably never get rich.
But is very well possible to make a decent living out of it. Besides that, it is a lot of fun to be your own publisher!

Your own magazine
Small publishers
First I will discuss for what kind of topics a digital magazine is most suitable. I will assume that you have at least some experience in publishing, writing and in editing. I will explain why you have a better chance to be successful as a publisher if you know your market well and can oversee the competition in the field. Then I will explain some technical details. If you have some moderate computer skills you can build your website yourself, or you may want to leave that to a professional. In both cases, read the whole book so you know what you are talking about.
This book will frequently refer to Wordpress as a platform for your website. But even if you use another platform or if you build your website yourself from scratch, most of the content will still be useful.
In the next chapters I will tell you more about how to build up your website with content that people would like to read assuming that you cannot afford an editorial staff or more than one or two freelance writers, at least at the start of your business. Then I will show you how to set up a newsletter, probably the most powerful tool for a web magazine publisher.
In addition there is the advertising, which is where
