Introduction
Much has been written about the need to manage unhealthy stress due to its long and short term effects on mental and physical well-being. Having both led and taken part in many stress reduction programs it struck me that true self-confidence is major component in leading a healthier and happier life.
Think about the sources of unhealthy stress: deadlines, frustration, unexpected adversity. A common factor is that these situations often leave us wondering if we can handle what life is throwing our way.
This is not to say that other measures like proper diet and exercise, adequate rest and recreation and so on aren’t important. However, when we have confidence the level of fear and worry is greatly reduced.
At the time I am writing this the world’s economic, political and environmental problems make it more of challenge than ever to be confident, but this is exactly what we need during these times.
Indeed we might very well call the present day the Age of Reinvention
where rapid societal, workplace and family changes are forcing us to continually adapt-whether we want to or not!
It reminds me of an analogy I once heard about whether you want to live your life like a thermometer or a thermostat.
A thermometer simply reports what the temperature is and does nothing about it. A thermostat notes the
