About this ebook

The Spartan-II program has gone public. Tales of super-soldiers fending off thousands of Covenant attacks have become the stuff of legend.
But just how many Spartans are left?
While the Master Chief defends a besieged Earth, and the myriad factions of the Covenant continue their crusade to eliminate humanity, an ultrasecret cell of the Office of Naval Intelligence known as "Section Three" devises a plan to buy the UNSC vital time. They're going to need hundreds of willing soldiers, though . . . and one more Spartan to get the job done.
The planet Onyx is virtually abandoned and the perfect place to set this new plan in motion. But when the Master Chief destroys Halo, something is triggered deep within Onyx: Ancient Forerunner technology stirs, and fleets of UNSC and Covenant race to claim it to change the course of the Human-Covenant War.
But this reawakened and ancient force may have plans of its own . . .

This is the fourth novel in the Halo universe. While John-117 appears briefly, and Blue Team and Dr. Halsey play a pivotal role in the second half of the book, the story focuses on Kurt and Ackerson's Spartan III project-- a program creating waves of Spartan-like disposable child soldiers. For the first time in a Halo novel I found a large portion of the key characters unsympathetic, and felt that the attempt to present characters as ready to be martyred heroes failed. The group dynamics were neither as strong nor as compelling as those in other Halo novels. For me, the positive aspects of well-written actions scenes, Blue Team, new Forerunner technology, and having Dr. Halsey's skills showcased failed to make up for and the new Spartan III group in general and the Kurt's character ark in particular.

Halo Ghosts of Onyx follows the adventures of the Spartans as they go to planet Onyx to attain Forerunner technology. The book is really good. The writing is simple and makes the contents of the book flow with ease, not boring the reader. One thing that surprised me, was that Ghost of Onyx contains mysterious elements in it, which made the book even more better, as this element was not in the other Halo books. For fans of the Halo universe, you will enjoy this action-packed novel.

Once again Nylund hits the target with his elaboration of the story from the Halo video game. Most of the characters are new, or at least new as center of the action, and there is a new breed of Spartans, the genetically altered soldiers who are trying to save humanity from an invading species. The book could probably stand on its own, and it's wonderful space opera.

Great book in the Halo saga. Tells the story of the Spartan III's so anyone who wants to know a bit more about the backround of the Halo Reach game should read this.

I liked the idea of veteran and rookie spartans working together on in the story. The character of Kurt was sort of the bridge between the two generation since he has trained with both the original Spartans and the newer Spartans for many years. Making him a person that both groups look at as a leader.

I really liked this book. It was about one of the first spartan-2's named Kurt. he has to train the new spartans to fight the covenant (the aliens who want to destroy the human race). one of the really cool things about this book is that it alternates views of the story. the end of the story is really somthing.

it was a very good book. it focused on Kurt (one of the last of the original spartans) trying to train the new spartans to fight the covenant. the story alternated between the other humans point of veiw and the covenants point of veiw. the end of the book was mind blowing!!

Bleh. A quick read, but not necessarily a good read. Too many times you wonder about the time line of the universe. Too many times you say, "deux ex machina". I'm enough of a geek to enjoy a sci-fi novel and videos games, but not enough of a geek to immerse myself entirely in the minutiae of the Halo universe. In my opinion, this book will please neither. It appears sloppy with an ending as bad as Halo 2 the video game.
