NYPD Red is the first in another new series for James Patterson and was originally published in 2012. It is a good introduction to the series, but it will not exactly blow you away.

There are thirty-five thousand police officers in New York and seventy-five of them are assigned to the new high profile victims response team. The team being the idea of the mayor a hardcore businessman who believes that the city should be run like a business. A place where the super-rich, the supremely powerful and ridiculously famous have their own protection and investigative squad. The series is based around Zach Jordan and his newly transferred in partner Kylie MacDonald and they have a personal history as well.

There is a New York film festival taking place in an attempt to attract more film makers to the city and not use it just as a backdrop. The biggest problem for the NYPD Red team is that there is a maniac who begins an attack on the very people and the studios the city is trying to attract. Each attack is more elaborate than the previous one and with Jackson and McDonald leading the charge they will eventually find the perp.

It is easy to guess the ending of this book and it is as if this book was just written for tv in that it is very easily predictable. While it is predictable it is also readable, like a comfortable cardigan.

Another rollicking good time with the NYPD Red team as they solve a couple of crimes. There's a lot going on and I thought that it was tough to follow at times. Ancillary characters--the female mayor is a terror, Kyle and Zach's boss is a political mess and the perp is quite adept at hiding in plain sight. We did not learn a lot about the crimes. On to #6,

I listened to the audio version of this and it does build on the previous books. The main mystery starts with a bombing at a charity event killing the speaker. The plot quickly unfolds that this is a revenge plot against a group of lifelong friends. As usual with the series the officers catch another case while working the bombing, so the tension is there of being pulled between the two cases. And then Zach helps out a friend figure out who robbed their private high stakes poker game that could have implications with his work partner. I thought this was a bit much to add to the storyline and for some reason I wasn’t as entertained with this book as the previous four. I’ll give it one more try before I set the series aside.

Another rollicking good time with the NYPD Red team, namely Kylie MacDonald and Zach Jordan. This time, they are trying to determine who killed a sex maniac and who is blowing up some of the city’s wealthiest benefactors. The sexual tension between Zach and Kylie continues to simmer, while they both pursue other relationships. Wise-cracking and thrilling, this is another solid novel from James Patterson and Marshall Karp.

Detectives Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald return as NYPD Red investigates a murder at the Silver Bullet Foundation’s elite dinner where it plans to announce its new public housing project. Then they find the body of a woman filmmaker; later another of the Foundation’s founders is murdered.

As if that weren’t enough for the two detectives, they are drawn into a robbery at a high-stakes, private poker game. Could one of the players be involved in the heist? And are Zach’s suspicions about one of the players valid? At the same time, as the body count rises, can Zach and Kylie find the answers they need to capture the murderer and put an end to the killings?

In this, the fifth outing for the Red task force, the cases are intriguing and all the expected players are in place. The glimpses into the private lives of both detectives add depth to the story, but their usual witty repartee comes off as a bit too mean-spirited and, at times, rather cringeworthy.

In typical Patterson trademark fashion, the chapters are short, there’s plenty of action, and the suspense is continually building. As the tension mounts, the stories unfold; unexpected revelations ramp up the tension and keep those pages turning. Readers are likely to find it difficult to set this quick read aside before reaching the final page.

    Recommended.

I saw this and having enjoyed a few Patterson books in the past the concept of a police department focused on the privileged rich dealing with what appears to be a terrorist bombing piqued my interest.

As with other Patterson books it's a quick read with the page count inflated by numerous chapter breaks and double line spacing, however the story itself is good, even if like me you haven't read the earlier books.

What starts off as a charity event bombing devolves into something more personal as a second person is blown up in their work place, concurrently the team is also investigating the death of a famous producer found naked and tied up in an abandoned building.

You could certainly find numerous worse ways to spend an evening than sitting down with this.
