About this audiobook

In 1947, Jackie Robinson breaks major-league baseball's color barrier—and changes the world. The event also changes the life of Joseph Burke, veteran of World War II and Robinson's bodyguard—because under the media spotlight, hard truths are easier than ever to see, and harder to escape. And some can prove fatal.

Memories flooded as I listened to this book; though the reader has a flat tone, mostly devoid of emotion, the book carries itself well in spite of that. Meaningful in the soft exposure of racial tides in those days, and the underlying details of daily life, the love story seems incidental ..
Sorry when I reached the end.
    Connelly is a superb writer.
