About this audiobook

The instant New York Times bestseller and “inspiring and vulnerable” (Trevor Noah) memoir from Bobby Hall, the multiplatinum recording artist known as Logic and the #1 bestselling author of Supermarket.

This Bright Future is a raw and unfiltered journey into the life and mind of Bobby Hall, who emerged from the wreckage of a horrifically abusive childhood to become an era-defining artist of our tumultuous age.

A self-described orphan with parents, Bobby Hall began life as Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, the only child of an alcoholic, mentally ill mother on welfare and an absent, crack-addicted father. After enduring seventeen years of abuse and neglect, Bobby ran away from home and—with nothing more than a discarded laptop and a ninth-grade education—he found his voice in the world of hip-hop and a new home in a place he never expected: the untamed and uncharted wilderness of the social media age.

In the message boards and livestreams of this brave new world, Bobby became Logic, transforming a childhood of violence, anger, and trauma into music that spread a resilient message of peace, love, and positivity. His songs would touch the lives of millions, taking him to dizzying heights of success, where the wounds of his childhood and the perils of Internet fame would nearly be his undoing.

A landmark achievement in an already remarkable career, This Bright Future “is just like the author—fearless, funny, and full of heart” (Ernest Cline, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Ready Player One) and looks back on Bobby’s extraordinary life with lacerating humor and fearless honesty. Heart-wrenching yet ultimately uplifting, this book completes the incredible true story and transformation of a human being who, against all odds, refused to be broken.

One of the best autobiographies ever!! And hearing Bobby, aka "Logic," tell it in his own voice was so powerful! It was as if I was going through the insanity of it all right along with him. And it was such chaos and insanity that no kid should have to go through, but he manages to tell the stories of his dysfunctional family life and upbringing with raw honesty, emotion and even humor. Logic is an incredible rapper and lyricist, and Bobby is an amazing and captivating storyteller. I love how he does all the voices with such authenticity. And he is so descriptive that you can totally imagine each scene as you hear him tell it. I have so much respect for this man, coming through this all with his integrity intact, and defying all odds to become a successful rapper, author, and now actor and father. A real rags to riches story, but he certainly earned and deserves every bit of success he has achieved. I also loved his semi-fictional book Supermarket about mental illness and psychopathology, which was a great one-man performance piece.

    Surprises Throughout.

I haven't followed Logic too much through his career. I liked more than a few of his singles, but admittedly, I've never listened to a full album. But, I heard him in an interview on a podcast, and they were talking about this book - I was curious. And, thankfully, I was not disappointed upon reading it. The book is personal, transparent, and relatable. Granted, I didn't grow up as Bobby did, but all kids go through those uncertain stages of life when we're trying to navigate the challenges (more so in Bobby's case) of home life and peer pressure and everything else that comes with being young. The stories Bobby told in the book are heartwrenching. The stories Bobby told in the book are funny. And, you can tell the stories are real. Can't help but appreciate the time and effort put into this memoir. Definitely worth the read.
