An intimate, revealing look at one artist’s journey from self-censorship to full expression
As one of the most celebrated musicians in the world, Alicia Keys has enraptured the globe with her heartfelt lyrics, extraordinary vocal range, and soul-stirring piano compositions. Yet away from the spotlight, Alicia has grappled with private heartache—over the challenging and complex relationship with her father, the people-pleasing nature that characterized her early career, the loss of privacy surrounding her romantic relationships, and the oppressive expectations of female perfection.
Since Alicia rose to fame, her public persona has belied a deep personal truth: she has spent years not fully recognizing or honoring her own worth. After withholding parts of herself for so long, she is at last exploring the questions that live at the heart of her story: Who am I, really? And once I discover that truth, how can I become brave enough to embrace it?
More Myself is part autobiography, part narrative documentary. Alicia’s journey is revealed not only through her own candid recounting, but also through vivid recollections from those who have walked alongside her. The result is a 360-degree perspective on Alicia’s path, from her girlhood in Hell’s Kitchen and Harlem to the process of growth and self-discovery that we all must navigate.
In More Myself, Alicia shares her quest for truth—about herself, her past, and her shift from sacrificing her spirit to celebrating her worth. With the raw honesty that epitomizes Alicia’s artistry, More Myself is at once a riveting account and a clarion call to listeners: to define themselves in a world that rarely encourages a true and unique identity.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I heard Alicia on Brene Brown's podcast, and as soon as the episode was over I immediately downloaded and listened to the book. This is such a vulnerable amount of her life and growth. She has such a unique and beautiful way with words. I have always loved Alicia, but listening to her story has deepened my respect. Very beautifully written and read.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The first few chapters where we learn about Alicia’s beginnings were nice. Everything else was either a self-glorification or a detailed description of how lavishly she and her husband celebrate each others birthdays and similar occasions. I really did not need a list of their wedding guests nor a history lesson about Egypt, or the Trump campaign. I’m a really big fan of Alicia but this book was disappointing to say the least. A superficial touch on events in her life and a lot of name dropping. I do feel like this was not her honest intention but it just came off that way and left me mostly bored and skipping through chapters.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed this audiobook by Alicia Keys. I love how she incorporated different speakers within chapters to speak about their experiences and involvement with Alicia, and how they impacted her self growth. I was able to connect and relate with a few events and growth she went through, which made it even more appealing and interesting to listen to. She was empowering, yet gentle and compassionate. She was strong and determined, but yet vulnerable and anxious. She showed every part of her, her strength and weaknesses, which was brave, and so relatable for others. I would recommend this audiobook to everyone. Thank you Alicia Keys for sharing your truth. ?

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Beautifully written and so heartfelt listening to Alicia share her stories & life experiences.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5By far the best read of my 2021. The writing is seemless and smooth. Poetic and deep. Insightful and aspiring. Perfectly balance of personal and professional. A true journey of her life and inner thoughts of how she arrived to today. So beautiful and enjoyable. Highly recommend.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Listening to Alicia describe her journey from an introverted young street smart girl who found refuge in her beloved upright to the musical visionary she is today made me have a new found appreciation for her. In my mind’s eye I was taken on her journey with her. Her beautiful voice was captivating and I found myself understanding her creative process of how she cleverly weaves her experiences from her journal entries to her growth in understanding the collaborative process and how exponential that can be. Most of all her intellect, humanity and advocacy for pursuing whatever it takes to promote Women’s rights is incredible. Most of all “More Myself” is the ultimate example of how living your Truth is truly magical.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is absolutely marvellous. Touched me to my very core. Thanks Alicia for encouraging me to be more myself!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a Beautiful Soul Alecia Keys is... with such Inspiration and a Guiding Light
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Such a good book! It really takes us through her journey of self discovery and somewhat challenges us to journey on our own
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Every female should read this. It is inspirational, and yet relatable. The web of music and self discovery is mesmorizing.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Narrating her own book and getting the pivotal people in her journey to take part really enriched the experience. I feel like I have a much better understanding of where Alicia came from, to arrive at this point in her life and I will be eternally grateful that she shared this incredible life- up to now- with all of us. Thank you, Alicia. You will continue to inspire me as a music artist and a human being.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have always been fascinated by her as an artist, but now I will hear her music in a whole new dimension. What a complex human being she is. Listening to her journey challenges you to be self-reflective with less judgement, and to question, "Why am I here?", not as a reflection of self-doubt but as a way to match your passions to the world. You finish the book feeling the value and joy of living life more genuinely, and perhaps more importantly, to give space and encouragement to those around you to live their full and shared life of discovery. Not at all what I expected to learn when I chose to listen to her story!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A book about personal journeys, self discovery and acceptance of one’s uniqueness. A beautiful story about growing into one’s own power. I have read many self help books in my life but not one resonated with me personally more than the words of Alicia Keys.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Alicia’s voice is so beautiful. Her aura and wisdom definitely shine in these words.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Dear friend Alicia ,
My daughter Arielle sent me the link for scribd membership.
Which I already had a subscription but never really used, life got really busy and I forgot all about it.
But WOW am I glad I signed up through her link . When I scrolled down and saw your More Alicia audio that was my very first pick.
I love biographies and your Audio is truly Amazing. I began listening yesterday (Tuesday) and finished the last chapter this morning.
Thank you for sharing your journey from the beginning ,I could relate with so much of your story. Not the fame part lol but being a woman bi-racial having to speak up when others weren’t interested in my opinion. There’s so much more but I don’t want to take up your time.
Your very unique and I am so happy that you are at a place and environment to own that.
Thank you,
Kim Boykin
