About this audiobook
From the acclaimed, controversial singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor comes a revelatory memoir of her fraught childhood, musical triumphs, fearless activism, and of the enduring power of song.
Blessed with a singular voice and a fiery temperament, Sinéad O’Connor rose to massive fame in the late 1980s and 1990s with a string of gold records. By the time she was twenty, she was world famous—living a rock star life out loud. From her trademark shaved head to her 1992 appearance on Saturday Night Live when she tore up Pope John Paul II’s photograph, Sinéad has fascinated and outraged millions.
In Rememberings, O’Connor recounts her painful tale of growing up in Dublin in a dysfunctional, abusive household. Inspired by a brother’s Bob Dylan records, she escaped into music. She relates her early forays with local Irish bands; we see Sinéad completing her first album while eight months pregnant, hanging with Rastas in the East Village, and soaring to unimaginable popularity with her cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2U.”
Intimate, replete with candid anecdotes and told in a singular form true to her unconventional career, Sinéad’s memoir is a remarkable chronicle of an enduring and influential artist.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a moving memoir—Sinead was such a beautiful soul and her words brought me to tears. May Allah have mercy on her and grant her entrance to the highest level of paradise ♥️
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Interesting to read this oven her recent death, she had an amazing voice and seems to have been an exceptional person and very brave.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Her voice is so warm, rich, and full of love. I could listen to it forever. But unfortunately, she is gone from this world. Back to the higher dimensions she came from the 1st place. Must have been hard for such a soul to be born in this low dimension. I saw her as a kid on tv with her hit song. My family joked about her appearance, but I found her video clip fascinating. Sat extra close to the screen to watch her. I never knew of her hardship. I'm glad she could tell it all in her own voice in this book. This was a goodbye for me. To really accept that she left.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved hearing Sinead tell the story of her life; what an interesting life and what a beautiful soul she is..she’s been through so much. I feel so sad for her and other children, including myself, who have been subjects of various forms of abuse. It’s so sad to listen to her story now, and to hear her voice as she passed a few days ago :( I wish she got the help she needed, and I wish she blessed us with her beautiful, fiery presence longer. She was a powerful force that helped the world shift for the better. Love you Sinead.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow. Sad to day I only opted to listen after her passing. I was kind of put off by her while she was alive and that is my loss. She was a pure soul and stood for justice and integrity across all of her days. PS - The chapter about Prince is f***ing priceless. RIP Sinéad.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5? Thank you for rememberings, Sinead forever, what a spirit.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Enjoyed this a lot and loved Sinéad’s writing style. It’s an honest memoir that really makes you appreciate Sinéad’s talent.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I have just raced through this in 2 days. It’s not like your standard “start at the beginning and go on till the end” autobiography, more like a friend sitting at the kitchen table recalling stories of her life as they come to her – some horrific, some hilarious, and some quite unhinged – but throughout all the tales and ramblings shines through her one true love – making music. A brave woman with a glorious voice.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Firstly, I will state the obvious: Sinéad O’Connor is one tough motherfucker. She is also a talented storyteller, as if that needs stating for anybody who listens to her music.I don’t. I don’t listen to her music. I find her voice lovely but I don’t like her music particularly. Her stories, the collected writings in this book, however, I have much time for.The rest of my review is found here.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Rememberings by Sinead O'Connor is one of the most heartfelt memoirs I have read. I don't simply mean that she opens up, I think most memoirists do to some extent, but that she "talks" to us as if it really matters that she conveys what she was thinking and what she thinks now. This memoir is truly for her own happiness and for our understanding. I'm not sure she cares, nor that she should, whether every reader agrees with her perspectives, but she tries very hard to make sure we can understand her actions as well as she does. This is very conversational, both in tone and structure. In the same way a very long discussion with a friend can meander back and forth this book does so as well. Not to a distracting or detrimental extent though it does take a few chapters to catch on to her authorial voice. After that, it is almost like sitting in the room listening to her.All of the moments in her life that are famous, or infamous, are covered, as well as some extraordinary lesser known moments. Knowing how she grew up will offer the reader some insight into why she has approached some of these moments as she did.I would recommend this to both fans of hers (I consider myself part of that group) as well as readers who just like memoirs. This will read a little different from most but your effort will be rewarded.Reviewed from a copy made available by the publisher via NetGalley.
