About this audiobook

NOW A NETFLIX ORIGINAL MOVIE STARRING MACHINE GUN KELLY, DANIEL WEBBER, DOUGLAS BOOTH, AND IWAN RHEON, DIRECTED BY JEFF TREMAINE.

Celebrate over thirty years of the world's most notorious rock band with the audiobook edition of The Dirt—the outrageous, legendary, no-holds-barred autobiography of Mötley Crüe. Fans have gotten glimpses into the band's crazy world of backstage scandals, celebrity love affairs, rollercoaster drug addictions, and immortal music in Mötley Crüe books like Tommyland and The Heroin Diaries, but now the full spectrum of sin and success by Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil, and Mick Mars is an open book in The Dirt. Joe Levy at Rolling Stone calls The Dirt ""without a doubt . . . the most detailed account of the awesome pleasures and perils of rock & roll stardom I have ever read. It is completely compelling and utterly revolting.""

I graduated High School in 1989 as a lover of metal and I grew up on Motley Crue and vaguely remember seeing them in concert at least once for Girls, Girls, Girls. This book was really interesting to find out all that was going on with the band while I was simply listening to the music. I enjoyed the format of the book in which band members each took on a chapter telling stories from their own point of view which was often in direct contradiction with the previous chapter shifting blame to another band member. This was a great way to be a voyeur into the world of Rock n’ Roll and a fun departure from the types of books I normally read. It’s made me enjoy some of the classic Cure songs that I have on my ipod so much more.

Well written, view points from each band member. Enough difference in view points to show controversy between members. Tells a lot of the early life and day to day of living a larger than life rockstar.

How on earth are these guys still alive? Sorcery? Maybe Nikki Sixx dabbled in some black magic, or they all sold their souls to the devil. Who knows?
A really good read on the more lighter side for me, I enjoyed it immensely, this book had me in tears from both sadness and hilarity (The tour with Ozzy Osbourne...that chapter had me laughing so hard that my stomach hurt). Then jump to the chapter that Vince wrote about dealing with the loss of his daughter was incredibly well written and truly devastating.

These guys have been through everything possibly imaginable, they've done every type of drug, induced more alcohol than I could possibly even fathom, suffered many broken hearts, numerous divorces and more lawsuits than I can count on my hands and wrote some truly rad music.

Truly a wonderful read. One of the best music biographies I've ever read.

A good book. That is if you can believe what you read. I dare to say that much of it is probably embellished. If not..then I think these guys would be in prison or actually dead.

Unbelievable. This is one of the best autobiographies I have ever read. Motley Crue have done it all, and seen it all, and now they write about it all. Very candid stuff from everyone in the band.

I guess when you've done it all (and then some), the only thing left to do is to tell the world about it. Much like their albums never winning a Grammy, their book isn't destined for a Pulitzer, but you've got to give the Crue big points for their unabashed candor. Guaranteed to offend just about everyone, but it's an interesting read anyway. If you ever bought your daughter a concert ticket to their show or gave her a lift to the concert, you might want to skip it though.

Awesome book! And I don't even really care for this band. Makes me so mad I never made it as a rock star, although at the same time, the book makes me so glad I never made it as a rock star.

Who doesn't enjoy an autobiography ?? To say gritty would be a huge understatement. This book is a look into the life of a rock band that will forever alter my view on rock stars. Believe it or not, there are actually some very touching parts to the story. I felt connected to each of the band members for different reasons. I also enjoyed how they described the music industry based on the success of your most current project - inetersting. One of those books that I will list as a guilty pleasure and would not recommend to my mom !!!

I have been a fan of the Crüe since it all began way back in 1981. I bought their first album with babysitting money. I still go to see them every time they come to my city. I didn't think there was much I didn't know about Mötley Crüe...Boy was I wrong.

    I absolutely loved this book!!!

If i could give minus 5 stars, i would.
This is not a biography, it's just a bunch of crimes and sexist thoughts put together with a pretty font. The amount of very WRONG things they do while acting like they had every right for doing them is unbelievable.
Vince actually kills someone while dui and after a few weeks he goes to say "well it happened, it was over and done with".
Tommy hits his wife, goes to jail and wonders "how could SHE do this to me?"
Nikki actually boasts that they were unstoppable and to exemplify he tells us of the time he and Tommy R*PED a girl.
I have zero respect for these men after reading this and honestly? I will judge anyone who likes this book, i earned this right after having to listen to this.

One of my favorite autobiographies. They're not afraid to own up to the debauchery they indulged in, while also giving a behind the scenes look into personal tragedies. You'll never look at rock stars the same way again.

Althought this book wasn't one that kept me up late, I very much enjoyed the read. I really liked the different viewpoints of each member and the way they were arranged. Some incidents were looked at in extremely different ways buy a number of people. If you are offended by sex, drugs and language then this isn't the book for you. If you are looking for a window into the glam rock of the Crue then read away!!

Wow! Pretty explicit and that makes it very interesting! The taco story was outrageous and so is the rest of this book. I grew up in the seventies and eighties and I remember their music but thet weren't really my thing. This book was still hard to put down.

This book chronicles the members of Motley Crue before, during and after their hayday. Sex, drugs and rock and roll, with all the dirty details.I could not put it down. Prepare to be disgusted and enthralled.

I was not a fan of Motley Crue before I read the book and I like them even less now. But read the book cover to cover I did. I read Nikki Sixx's Heroin Diaries earlier and thought it was interesting (I like reading about recovery). Sixx came off as intelligent and sympathetic. I take that all back now. The Dirt exposed the band members, with the exception of Mick Mars, as hedonistic, irresponsible, womanizing addicts. The thought of Vince Neil getting a little jail time for killing a passenger while driving drunk is beyond me. Sure, he seems sorry that he killed his buddy, but he continues to go on with life drinking alcoholically as though the jail sentence meant nothing. The degree of drinking, drugging, womanizing and just plain bad behavior was so out of control that it was difficult to read. But read I did. I used to work for Frederick's of Hollywood on Hollywood Boulevard back in the early 90s. Motley Crue girlfriends and wives (Pamela Anderson, Brandi Brandt) used to model for us and so the band would make their way into the corporate office for the photo shoots. I didn't pay much attention to them because I didn't like their music, image or reputation. I still don't but have some kind of weird fascination with them.

The rock bio by which all other rock bios should be judged.

This book was terrific. I enjoyed it so much, I've read it three times, and each time, I've caught something I didn't really "get" the first few times around.

The four members of Motley Crue, along with others who worked with/for them through the years, write this book together. Each person gets their own chapters, which works wonderfully. We get to hear their stories in their own voices - and it really gets amusing when they're telling the same story but from different points of view. For example, Mick Mars (who comes across as extremely intelligent and quite witty, in a dry, deadpan way) talks about how he used to drink vodka before the shows but the band always thought it was water. Later, in their chapters, the other band members talk about how Mick used to drink vodka before the shows, but thought he had everyone believing it was water, when they knew better the entire time.

They cover everything: their childhoods, the beginning of the band, the shot to stardom, the groupies, the girlfriends, the booze, the drugs, and each other. They bare it all (even the absolutely digusting stuff - Ozzy Osbourne is, or was, quite obviously insane) and tell the truth - even when it comes to each other, and how they've felt about each other over the years. You can understand why they've all hated each other at some point, after learning more about them.

Vince Neil comes across, at times, as a very self-serving, egotistical jackass...but the chapters in which he talks about his daughter's cancer are extremely touching.
Nikki Sixx is actually quite smart and charming, when he's not all whacked out on heroin.
Mick Mars, I mentioned above - very intelligent and quite funny, in his own way.
Tommy Lee is Tommy Lee - sort of an airhead, the goofy "Yeah, dude!" guy you totally expect him to be.

How these guys are still alive, I have no idea - but they're still rocking. They just played a show in my town a week ago.

If you like Motley Crue at all - hell, even if you don't - pick this up. It's an incredible autobiography.

EXCELLENT!! I am a huge fan of Motley Crue so naturally I had to read the book and it is one of my all time favorites (I love it so much I my mom found my a 1st ed. hardcover for my b-day one year). Some of the best parts aren't what the band members said, but the outsiders who were looking in. That being said Mick Mars surprisingly had some of the funniest things to say. If you've got some spare time and want some light reading with a little insanity thrown in, grab yourself a copy.

A chronicle of unbelievable decadence, and a rare example of a tell-all that lives up to its hype. Doesn't pull its punches, and is a definite must for any Crüe fan. I would rate it even higher if it wasn't for Tommy Lee's contributions, which are as annoying as you'd expect from such a spaz.
