About this audiobook

"Not only is this queer rom-com audiobook PERFECT ON PAPER--it's also perfect on audio...The wonderful writing coupled with [Barrie] Kreinik's execution makes this a spectacular audiobook." -- AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award winner

In Sophie Gonzales' Perfect on Paper, Leah on the Offbeat meets To All the Boys I've Loved Before: a bisexual girl who gives anonymous love advice to her classmates is hired by the hot guy to help him get his ex back

Her advice, spot on. Her love life, way off.

Darcy Phillips:
• Can give you the solution to any of your relationship woes—for a fee.
• Uses her power for good. Most of the time.
• Really cannot stand Alexander Brougham.
• Has maybe not the best judgement when it comes to her best friend, Brooke…who is in love with someone else.
• Does not appreciate being blackmailed.

However, when Brougham catches her in the act of collecting letters from locker 89—out of which she’s been running her questionably legal, anonymous relationship advice service—that’s exactly what happens. In exchange for keeping her secret, Darcy begrudgingly agrees to become his personal dating coach—at a generous hourly rate, at least. The goal? To help him win his ex-girlfriend back.

Darcy has a good reason to keep her identity secret. If word gets out that she’s behind the locker, some things she's not proud of will come to light, and there’s a good chance Brooke will never speak to her again.

Okay, so all she has to do is help an entitled, bratty, (annoyingly hot) guy win over a girl who’s already fallen for him once? What could go wrong?

Editor's Note

Perfect love triangle…

This romantic comedy has some of the best bisexual representation in media we’ve seen yet. Darcy Phillips has a crush on her best friend, Brooke Nguyen, who isn’t on the same wavelength. Darcy doesn’t let that stop her from running a popular, anonymous relationship advice business out of locker 89 at school. It’s a great way to make extra cash, until she gets caught by high school heartthrob Alexander Brougham, who blackmails Darcy into helping him win back his ex. A perfect love triangle setup.

This is not about a WLW relationship but about a Sapphic character, and the book made really interesting points about the feeling of a bisexual in the queer community

such a sweet book? i fell in love with these characters and gosh, where can my bi ass find bf who's this cool & nice? because their relationship >>> any other one.
im really pleased with the bisexual rep in this book, i really felt that part about internalized biphobia and it just feels great to read about "my people".

Locker 89 was a moment when Darcy made some grown up decisions even though she was only 16. As the daughter of a teacher and having so much time on school grounds, Darcy decided to become a source for anonymous advice using the locker that wasn’t assigned to anyone, locker 89.
This $10 advice box, while well intentioned, was a moment where Darcy learned that adult activities like functioning as a paid therapist has adult consequences when the confidentiality is breached.

I love this book because my teenager also thinks she’s 14 going on 30. It’s a reminder that kids don’t truly get the magnitude of their day to day decisions. Great book to read with teenagers

This was cute!! I felt like the representation in this was natural, and I deeply appreciated the focus on bisexual representation (and the inclusion of aromantic and asexual characters)! This story utilized the miscommunication/kind of enemies-to-lovers tropes well. I’d definitely recommend this for readers aged 15-20.

Absolutely LOVED IT!!! So rare to see representation for bi people not in a wlw or mlm relationship!!! Darcy was so relatable and funny and real imo. Also Ansley shined lmao, loved their sister relationship and care for each other. Most important, FINALLY a book with real and not cringy relationship advice! I absolutely hate bad communication tropes and lack of considering therapy as a source of help in midia. Overall, amazing characters and funny dialogues ?
