About this audiobook

At 24, life was good for Georgie Dent. After graduating with top marks she landed her dream job at a prestigious Sydney law firm and moved in with a boyfriend she adored. She had the world at her feet and no right to break. But she did. Badly. Within a year Georgie was unemployed, back living with her parents and suffering such crippling anxiety that she ended up in a psychiatric hospital. Breaking Badly is the story of a nervous breakdown in slow motion, a life that fell apart and what it took to put it back together again. Brutally honest and warmly engaging, it's a must-read for anyone who sometimes feels close to the edge.
“Funny shocking, beautifully written … a fascinating account of one woman's hand-to-hand combat with her own mind.” ANNABEL CRABB

I’ve read Dent’s journalism writing for years (mostly via Women’s Agenda legal & leadership related content), and I’m always intrigued to read more about the way that early experiences working in law impact career trajectories. Dent writes about a whole range of experiences in her early career - working in a top commercial firm as a junior lawyer, sexual harassment, living with endometriosis and Crohn’s disease, mental health breakdown, moving overseas, and starting a family, all amidst what reads like a constant pivot as to what focus she wanted in her life. I really appreciated how candid she was with her experiences and emotions throughout, and heartened by her perseverance and dynamic approach to her family and career. One I’ll definitely be recommending to lawyer friends of mine particularly, and to other readers looking for an engaging memoir discussing chronic illness and career and balance particularly.
