About this audiobook

*A PureWow Best Beach Read of Summer 2022*

A wedding weekend spirals out of control in this bold, electrifying, hilarious novel about the complexities of female friendship

Robin and Ellie have been best friends since childhood. When Robin came out, Ellie was there for her. When Ellie's father died, Robin had her back. But when Ellie asks Robin to be her maid of honor, she is reluctant. A queer academic, Robin is dubious of the elaborate wedding rituals now sweeping the nation, which go far beyond champagne toasts and a bouquet toss. But loyalty wins out, and Robin accepts.

Yet, as the wedding weekend approaches, a series of ominous occurrences lead Robin to second-guess her decision. It seems that everyone in the bridal party is out to get her. Perhaps even Ellie herself.

Manically entertaining, viciously funny and eerily campy, So Happy for You is the ultimate send-up to our collective obsession with the wedding industrial complex and a riveting, unexpectedly poignant depiction of friendship in all its messy glory.

I think this was weirdly very engaging. I also liked the fact that it does discuss that weddings can be so over the top and ridiculous these days, and how society really brainwashes us into caring so much about weddings and marriage (the whole concept that if you don't get married by certain age- you aren't worth anything)

The main POV doesn't mince words, is judgemental, and is quite an asshole at times. I could see this being me, though I do know how to contain my opinions most of the time. I could agree with Robin (the main POV) in many situations, so I really liked following her along and discovering the unhinged plotlines that she seems to get into.

Overall, this was a super enjoyable audiobook and I flew through it in 2 days.

This story is ridiculous. But in a good satirical way. And while there are a couple of horror-movie esque bad decisions, its mostly so well written that it feels plausible.

Good narration, everything at the same pace and everything was clear

The narrator was fantastic. I enjoyed this book, but it was like a hybrid between great story and a thriller. I didn’t realize it was supposed to be a thriller and was caught a little off guard, but I did enjoy it and the character development was spot on. I’m also pissed to be manipulated into getting married by the government and may divorce my husband just to spite the “man”.

Hope to see more from this author, really enjoyed the perspective.

I really enjoyed this book! It touches on some important society pressures and standards but with a fun thriller twist!
