About this audiobook

In 1837, Juniper Collins and her sisters are shocked by their father’s deathbed request for them to return a special set of beads to a Piegan Blackfoot woman he credits with saving his life during his travels West. Together, the sisters set out for the trapper rendezvous to find the woman,
but their mission turns more daunting when they come upon the mass of men and lodges spread out in the Green River Valley.

Riley Turner came West to find peace and quiet and live off the land, but when four unprotected women arrive at the rendezvous, he feels compelled to help them and is more fascinated by Juniper than any other woman he’s known.

As their search brings only empty leads and dead ends, the sisters must decide whether to return East or stay in the mountains to continue looking—and that’s if the mystery woman is even still alive. Is the risk to honor their father’s last request worth the danger they find at every turn?

Juniper Collins and her sisters find themselves with an almost impossible mission to accomplish. They must find a Peigan Native American woman called Steps Right and return her turquoise bead necklace to her and ensure her gift of horses was received. This request, a wish of their father on his deathbed, is one they cannot deny. None of the sisters has ever heard of Steps Right or even knows if she is still living. However, they travel across the country in with a wagon train to begin their search. Once they arrive at the Rocky Mountain camp, they are left on their own to fend for shelter, food, and security. While the sisters would prefer to take care of themselves, mountaineer Riley Turner will not let these woman remain unprotected. Surrounded by hundreds of men in the Rocky mountain wilderness is not a way to test one's bravery or foolishness. When Riley learns that these women are here to fulfill a request of their late father, he cannot help but provide for them in any way he can. However, finding Steps Right is proving much more difficult and time consuming than the Collins sisters ever thought possible. Should the sisters stay in the wilderness to fulfill their mission, or should they return with the wagon train and the safety & security of the civilized East? This was a good book and I see that there is another in the series to come out! That will be nice to see what happens to each of the sisters, Riley, and the men in the camp. Thank you LibraryThing for the Early Reviewers copy! I look forward to the sequel and learning of the further adventures of the Collins sisters!

The defining premise of the book is that of four sisters who travel from their home in Virginia to the unsettled frontier in the mountains of the future state of Wyoming. Their reason for such a journey, virtually unheard of during that time period, is to fulfill their dying father's request to find an Indian woman who nursed him during a deathly illness when he was in the wilderness. I just found it strange that without knowing more about the woman and where she actually was and after a period of 20 years had passed, these four young women would journey thus. But they did.....And once the guide got them to the trapper's rendezvous (an annual gathering of trappers to replenish their supplies) in the Wyoming territory, their search began. But the problem was these were four young white women amidst a sea of men who hadn't seen a woman in years. Truly a dangerous situation! The author word-smith's some beautiful landscapes of the mountains and captures the unsettling tensions as the women get nearer the hoard of trappers. And then later when the four women journey into actual Indian camps, the author captures the risk, the tension, and evokes the spirit of the activity. An interesting story, though not a favorite. I really couldn't find anything to dislike about the story. Just a bit unusual for women to travel on such a mission or adventure.I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review. Opinions are mine, alone and are freely given.

This novel combines several of my favorite topics: sisters, mountain men, the frontier, and Wyoming.Four sisters embark on tracking down a native woman who had saved their father. Luckily, trapper Riley becomes their guide and protector.I loved the easiness of the dialogue and the closeness of the sisters.I also liked how Belker kept the story in 1837 without infusing any modernism or modern day proclivities. The best part was the environment of the frontier in all is pristine wilderness glory.I’m looking forward to the next book.

Nothing is quite as exciting as the initiation of a new series by Christian historical Western fiction writer Misty Beller. Her books never fail to have me reading for hours at a time, usually finishing them in two or three sittings. There is just something enthralling about being transported nearly two hundred years back in time to a period when the American West was still largely untamed and unmarred by industry and development. For me, at least, it speaks to a part of my spirit that longs for the simplicity that has become a casualty of modern technology, for the natural wonders felled by progress. That being said, however, one aspect of Beller’s novels that I appreciate the most is that she does not romanticize the lifestyles and hardships of her characters within their historical context. A simple life does not necessarily equate to an easy one, but when a person chooses to walk by faith, the journey always proves worthwhile. Set in July 1837 in the Green River Valley of what will one day become Wyoming, “Rocky Mountain Rendezvous” is book one in Misty Beller’s Sisters of the Rockies series. The titular Collins sisters include the oldest and the leader, Rosemary; the second oldest, Juniper; animal-loving Lorelie; and the youngest and most adventurous, Faith. This first book focuses mainly on Juniper, or “June,” who along with Rosemary has taken on the task of raising and taking care of their younger sisters, even now that they are mostly grown, and as a result, the four share an unbreakable bond that has brought them all on a westward journey to find a Peigan Blackfoot woman named Steps Right in order to fulfill their father’s dying request. I found myself relating to the trapper Riley Turner in his admiration of the sisters’ bond, especially as an only child, even as my heart broke for his own circumstances. Always rich in characters as well as setting, “Rocky Mountain Rendezvous” likewise follows suit with Beller’s previous stories in its diversity of both trappers and Native Americans, as well as the aforementioned Collins sisters. I do think that a pronunciation guide would be very beneficial for some of the Native American names and terms, particularly given that they are historical and not always as easy to research and find. Along with romance and tense situations, Beller also interjects humor into the storyline at opportune moments to lighten the mood, and I am continually grateful that despite at times describing scenes of violence, this author never ventures into graphic details. Likewise, the element of faith is always present without being overbearing, and in “Rocky Mountain Rendezvous” Juniper acknowledges the crux of what we who are followers of Christ are all called to do by saying, “We can plant the seed in the sunshine and water it, but only the Lord can bring the crop.” Sometimes we, like Riley and Juniper, try to take on responsibilities that we are not called to bear, and learning to discern this is part of our faith journey and walk with God. Furthermore, in the midst of the inevitable heartache and trials of life, may we, like Juniper, realize that the Lord is always at work in us and in our circumstances, so that “she couldn’t miss the hand of God clearly working all these things together for good.”I received a complimentary copy of this book through Celebrate Lit and was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.

Good book. Interesting story about four sisters who head to a trapper's rendezvous to fulfill a wish of their father's. They had no idea what they were getting into. Nice to get to know all of the characters, with Juniper being the main focus and Riley who felt the need to be their protector. The wild west at some of it's rowdiest! Trappers, native Americans, theft, a search and mystery, danger, a fulfilling journey. Very close sisters and their relationship. Communicating with others and understanding their ways and cultures. Beautiful scenery. Basic Christian values. I received this book free from the author, publisher and CelebrateLit book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.#RockyMountainRendezvous #MistyMBeller #BooksYouCanFeelGoodAbout #ChristianHistoricalFiction #FiveStarNovel #CelebrateLit

Imagine setting out for the west in 1837 hoping to find a Native lady that saved your father’s life 20 years earlier. That is the task set before the four sisters - Rosemary, Juniper, Lorelei and Faith. Just getting to the rendezvous must have been an adventure all its own. But how to find Steps Right? This lovely story starts us out on a new series, Sisters of the Rockies, one you certainly will not want to miss. From a coyote pup to rattlesnakes, the dangers are many but the search goes on. In the vast area called the Rockies, is it even possible to find one woman? Will these sisters survive the charge they have been given? An early copy was received through Baker Publishing Group, Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley. These impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.

There is something special about this author that draws me to her books. She is able to take readers on an adventure while painting a picture of the land and people with vivid details. I was transported back to 1837 with four sisters on a mission to fulfill their father’s last wish. It will be a dangerous task to track down the woman they are looking for but they have faith that they will succeed. I loved reading about the land they traveled on and the danger that they faced. This new series promises to be an epic adventure where strength, hope and courage will be tested. I adored the four sister in this first book and loved how they protected each other and was always there if someone needed encouragement. I was very intrigued by the determination they had to seek out a woman who they didn’t know. What if she was not receptive to them? Would this woman reject the gift they have brought? It is truly an emotional story complete with snakes, horse thieves, a handsome man who comes to their aid and a coyote as a pet.Riley is someone the sisters need to help them locate the woman and I admired how he stepped up to not only travel with them but to also protect them from the treacherous land, weather and unexpected travelers on the road. With a subtle nudge that the author gave we discover Riley and Juniper start to become more that just acquaintances. Their attraction grows slowly and shows how much they are meant for each other. The ending is one that gave me such hope as the sisters get closer to finding this special woman. Juniper runs into trouble and I was shocked at who saved her. The author does leave a door open which I hope will continue this journey with Juniper and her sisters. I find myself already getting excited about the next book in this series. I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

“It’s been a while since we’ve discussed the rules we set for ourselves before we started on this journey. It might be good we take time to recall them. Especially the one about not allowing an attachment to form with any of the men here.”It’s time to visit the Rockies again (as they were in the 1800s) with Misty M Beller as she leads us into a new series, Sisters of the Rockies. Rocky Mountain Rendezvous introduces us to the four Collins sisters, but we get to know Juniper best. The four sisters arrive in 1837 in the Green River Valley, now Wyoming, at an annual trading rendezvous. Having promised their dying father they would find the Piegan woman who used her healing knowledge to save his life, the young women hire a young and handsome trapper, Riley Turner, to lead them to different Blackfoot Piegan tribes. Riley and Juniper both are very likable. However, Riley’s childhood leaves him with scars hard to overcome. Juniper may be attracted to Riley, and decides to help him in a way he may not be prepared for. But she must guard her heart, as the women made a list of rules for themselves before coming west. Topping the list was no romantic attachments to men on the trip! Part of the mystery I figured out. There was some unfinished business at the end, which leads one to believe it will be solved in the next story.I loved learning about the rendezvous, a new historical event for me. I wonder if Dragoon’s character will grow more in another book, or is he just not a strong person? While I had fun imagining the pet coyote pup and the story flowed well, I really yearned for more vivid descriptions of the gorgeous, dangerous scenery and events. I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit via NetGalley. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.Notable Quotsbles:He wouldn’t be his parents. He would be better. Why did she have to say no to one love in order to accept the other?Loving someone made you far too vulnerable to the pain of loss, whether they left you by choice or through injury or sickness.“Even when you think you know a person, sometimes they change.”I try to take the measure of each person individually instead of labeling an entire tribe as dangerous. There’s good and bad in every village.”
