- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The characters are likeable enough but the prose tends to be a tad too lengthy and repetitive. Dislike the narrator too; horrible twang and drawl; had to listen at 1.2x or faster to minimise the effect. The series gets better in book 2&3, but the narrator does not
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Despite really not enjoying stories about cops—because, policing as a whole, sucks—I know that it’s a common trope in lesbian/queer fiction, and I do like a mystery/crime thriller. So. The reason I picked this one up is the narrator, Lori Prince, whose narration i pretty much love every time. Especially when one of the main characters is given the voice she used for Finn, in this particular tale. I really liked all of the characters in this story, the only thing I didn’t love had to do with Avery/Sloane/Finn. I was really worried it would go the infidelity route and was very glad it didn’t, but I wasn’t thrilled with the fridging trope instead. That is a spoiler, but I think it’s one that’s worth knowing going in. Despite my qualms about that, I did really enjoy this more than I thought I might and I’m looking forward to the rest of the trilogy.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Boring. Neverending grieving and self pity. And the narrator... Every man speaking sounds bored and almost every one, like robot.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love the police mystery trope. Lots of grieving but good character development. Keep your tissues handy, especially for the first 5-10 minutes. Lori Prince is so great.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I like how deep Sloan and Fins love for each other but what the heck Avery is a great person and kind of like no matter what Sloan will chose Fin over her. My heartbroke when Avery died and I cant be happy for Sloan and Fin until the 3rd installment I feel bad for Avery that I dont get to enjoy it.
