Ancillary Justice meets Red, White & Royal Blue in Winter’s Orbit, Everina Maxwell’s gut-wrenching and romantic debut.
A famously disappointing minor royal and the Emperor's least favorite grandchild, Prince Kiem is summoned before the Emperor and commanded to renew the empire's bonds with its newest vassal planet. The prince must marry Count Jainan, the recent widower of another royal prince of the empire.
But Jainan suspects his late husband’s death was no accident. And Prince Kiem discovers Jainan is a suspect himself. But broken bonds between the Empire and its vassal planets leaves the entire empire vulnerable, so together they must prove that their union is strong while uncovering a possible conspiracy.
Their successful marriage will align conflicting worlds.
Their failure will be the end of the empire.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A fantastic romance novel that I think anyone even slightly interested in its subject matter should try. The side characters were absolutely amazing and the male leads are two adorable balls of fluff that must be protected at all costs. Aside from its phenomenally executed romance, I would also recommend this book for its expansive world-building and all the small details that I enjoyed piecing together throughout the story, making its world tangible and fascinating. I would most definitely recommend you read this book if you are interested.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was one of my most anticipated reads of this year so far, because when I heard it was compared to Red, White & Royal Blue in space I was just SO STOKED. I don't know that to me that comparison holds, although I did really enjoy it. I love an arranged/fake/forced marriage, and both main characters enter into the marriage out of a sense of duty and assume a lot about the other's motivations, which I think was SO well done between their dual perspectives. A lot of the book is the sort of mystery of Taam's death and who is trying to potentially cover it up, which I'm assuming is the comparison to Ancillary Justice (but I haven't read it yet), and I was slightly less interested in that than the royal romance sub-plot, I think this would've been 5 stars for me if it had leaned heavier into rom-com territory, but it was overall really fun and kept my interest.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed this book so much! I have often neglected romance in the books I read but this was so wholesome. I absolutely loved the characters and I hope we'll see a sequel or spinoff because characters like Bel deserve their own story too. Meanwhile, I can see myself relistening/rereading this often and just feeling all the love for my precious boys.
