About this audiobook
Swordsman, soldier, poet . . . and possessor of the biggest nose in all of France!
Cyrano de Bergerac was all this and more, for behind his grotesque face beat the heart of a lover. And, being Cyrano, who could he fall in love with but the most beautiful woman in Paris?
From this conflict of nose versus heart springs one of the most uproarious, tender, funny, painful, and action-packed stories of all time – a tale that has its roots in truth, for Cyrano de Bergerac really existed.
Working from Edmond Rostand's beloved play, Geraldine McCaughrean has transformed the tale into muscular prose that shimmers with turns of phrase Cyrano himself would have admired, offering us a thrilling new way to experience the power and passion, the humor and heartbreak, of one of the most beloved stories of all time.

Reviews for Cyrano

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Based on the famous play by Edmond Rostand, this book is a good companion to the classic, especially if you are looking for lighter and more modern reading. Very funny due to its hilariously overdone, sappy drama, with sharp witty dialogue through-out the story. It is short and easy to get through... An enjoyable story.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Ashamed of his ugliness, long-nosed Cyrano de Bergerac, a brilliant seventeenth-century poet and expert swordsman in the French army, helps a rival woo and win Roxane, the beautiful cousin Cyrano loves in silence.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Do kids of today need to be familiar with the Cyrano de Bergerac story? Sure, it's not a bad one. Will this book have them seeking out the original tale or finding more information about the man? Probably not.Finding an audience might be hard for this book because although it is quite thin, it's not just any kid who is going to pick up this book. Luckily for the audience, McCaughrean starts with the scene of Cyrano making fun of his own nose (use this booktalk and you might have some takers). The rest of the book is too short to get emotionally involved with the characters and too full of French names and historical references for reluctant readers.Should kids of today know the Cyrano story? Sure,Are they going to get it from this book? Nope, they'll watch the movie with Steve Martin and Darryl Hannah, laugh at the 80s clothes, but enjoy themselves.
