About this audiobook
What The Daily Show is to evening news, The Colbert Report is to personality-driven pundit shows. Colbert brings his sarcastic charm to a half-hour report, tackling the important issues of the day and telling his guests why their opinions are just plain wrong. Stephen stands for truthiness and his American right to copyright that word and claim ownership of it.
I AM AMERICA the audiobook, features an all-American cast that includes Paul Dinello, Kevin Dorff, Greg Hollimon, Evie McGee, David Pasquesi, Amy Sedaris, Allison Silverman, Bryan Stack, and Jon Stewart. Stephen Colbert describes his audiobook as a simple audiobook from a simple mind--Stephen Colbert. It is one man's attempt to wedge his brain between hardback covers---in this case CD jackets. In plain conversational language, not to mention the occasional grunt and/or whistle, Stephen explains his take on the most pressing concerns of our culture: Faith, Family...Hygiene.
Why now? Stephen fears America has lost its balls and he hopes to re-ballify us. Even the ladies. Ladies can have balls--lady-balls too. Stephen likes to call those "Thatchers." Stephen will show how he got his mammoth swinging sack, with tales of courage and vital documents from his own life: the Mother's Day card he made at age six, disputed credit card bills, putt-putt score cards--all the major milestones.
Oh and don't buy this if you don't have any balls! But if you do buy it, you will get them, and then you can buy another copy with a clean conscience.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Stephen Colbert is hilarious!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I like a good laugh and this book does contain some. Mr. Colbert's genius is better demonstrated in performance than print, but the work is well presented and its audience is pretty loyal this would not be the way I would prefer to be introduced to the Colbert metier, but as a fan of the performance, I would describe this book to be as good an example of the written work as can be had.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I laughed, I laughed, and I laughed. This book embodied everything I loved about The Colbert Report, with helpful graphics and sidebars strewn throughout. I'm glad that I bought this book and read it, even if it was years after I meant to.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I laughed.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book was a funny read. I could hear Stephen in my head the whole time, and I definitely think if you don't watch the Report you won't like this.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I was extremely disappointed in this book. I love Stephen Colbert and his show makes me laugh out loud. I think the guy himself is adorable and I love watching him being interviewed where he's half in character and half not. But this book was boring and not very funny. I listened to it as an audiobook hoping that his voice and intonation would make it funnier but it just wasn't very good. I couldn't even finish it.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5really it's just the colbert report in hardcover. not that that's a bad thing, necessarily, but there is a certain timeliness to the show that doesn't translate to the page.
unfortunately, that timeliness is where a lot of the real humor is. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Hilarious. Not as hilarious as the Stewart book, but still great. I have to read it in Colbert's voice for it to really work. The chapter on religion has the most laugh-out-loud moments. Great use of marginalia.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Unfortunately, Mr. Colbert is much better on his show than he is in his book. His book has some good moments, but it is nowhere near the genius of America: the Book by Mr. Stewart.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Stephen Colbert was able translate his humor from screen to the written page in fantastic fashion in I Am America (And So Can You!). Although Colbert covers material that was featured on The Colbert Report, but does so in a fun and engaging way that one doesn't mind a bit of overlap with his TV show. From youth to old age, school and religion to Hollywood and the Media, Colbert covers issues he thinks the most important for his viewers (and readers) to know his thoughts on in a way that you can not laugh out loud. The best part of the book is at the end with the entire speech Colbert gave at the 2006 White House Correspondents' Dinner, the moment in which Colbert burst onto the national scene.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Read this one over the course of a weekend. It is a satirical look at the current state of affairs in U.S. government and culture. I have not seen Colbert's television show, but he says in his book that he is a conservative. Then he gives a lot of backhanded compliments to those very conservatives he claims to support. Not sure what his real politics are, but he has a keen wit and a fun style. I found this book to be quite entertaining.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Like so many of the conservative TV hosts that he emulates and satirizes, Stephen Colbert has now written a book for the masses: "I Am America (and So Can You!)" In it, he combines bits of biography with his prolific opinions on all manner of things, including chapters on hot-button issues like religion, sex, Hollywood, and science. The tone is akin to that of his half-hour show, conservatism and patriotism on steroids in the form of a likeable egomaniac. In some ways, it is a potent satire of the form of media-type "tell it like it is" books. Each chapter has a main text that is supplemented by photos and charts, first-person commentaries, pull-out facts, and even games, which is to say that it is a rather incoherent mess, more interested in landing punches than presenting a coherent argument.Beyond this, it incorporates many elements of "The Colbert Report," including some whimsical touches -- like the page of "Stephen T. Colbert Award" stickers that you can add to books in your library, and the cynical margin commentary on the commentary, a printed version of the show's popular "The Word" segment. If the book's actual humor is a little uneven, it is frequent. While not as good as the best episodes of the show, it is an enjoyable read, especially for those who appreciate Colbert's unique mix of humor.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This was a book that I came into reading thinking that I wouldn't like it. I was definitely wrong. It was hilarious, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys political humor.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Hilarious! I have to admit that one of the funniest things about the book is the great points that he makes with his sarcasm and mockery; he'll make you laugh and think at the same time.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I Love Colbert but watching him on television is so much better than reading his book. The book was funny but long, it took me a while to read it from start to finish.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5it is so much better to listen to it!!!!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Stephen Colbert's book is a delight. Written in character throughout, this short (240ish pages) book is consistently funny. Right from the start, when he declares that all of the claims are "self-evidence" (thus explaining why he did absolutely no research), to the index with every entry listed under "Colbert, Stephen" the reader is treated to his brand of over the top, but still sophisticated, humor. For those unfamiliar with his show, the entire book is in character as a shameless self-promoting, ultra-conservative television pundit. Colbert's talent is to be able to use this character to provide biting and thoughtful satire without becoming too caught up in the absurdities of his character. If you like his show, then I think you will like the book (and if you do not like the show, avoid the book). I kept hearing his standard delivery in every line (it really reads like he is simply talking at you), and the book is modeled on his segment "The Word" where his discussion is annotated with cheeky remarks (in this case, in the margin). If you like Colbert, then this book promises some hearty laughs.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5If you are a fan of the industrial strength satire of Colbert's show than you'll like the book. It was funny in places and a very light and enjoyable read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just looking at this book makes your patriotism go up. Try it- look- ahhh America! This book is so important to America, that not reading it might make your patriotism go down. Stephen doesn't just speak for the random people he made up in this book, he speaks for all of us. Learn what you think: read this book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Stephen Colbert's wit, humor, and political commentary are loud and clear in this book. There were moments when the jokes started to get old, but his topics changed often enough that I was quickly pulled back in. If you like the Colbert Report, you will enjoy this book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved I Am America (And So Can You!) by Stephen Colbert. The book is hilarious and Stephen raises some really good points. I loved everything about this book even down to the way he put The Dr. Stephen T Colbert award on the cover and reviewed his own book. This book just like Stephen Colbert is smart, witty, and simply hysterical.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Handsomely produced but underwhelming.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I'd rather stick with watching his show.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Oh Stephen Colbert, you make me laugh long time. I America (And So Can You!) is a hilarious take on America from the viewpoint of Stephen Colbert of 'E!' fame. This book is an extension of the character played by Mr. Colbert on his show and the humor translates fairly well to the page. Stephen Colbert tackles all topics from the tame to taboo including: race, religion, homosexuality, science and sex. Colbert has gone out of his way to ensure that his humor encompasses the entire page including foot and margin notes (so don't gloss over those).I read this book over the course of a single day, which I would not recommend. The jokes do start to get stale when read in short order. In other words, read this book a few chapters at a time to maximize the 'LOL factor'. This satirical romp is probably most enjoyed by those of a leftist political persuasion, but I think most people will find at least parts of this book entertaining.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I really love the show but I was really disappointed in this book. The jokes just don't go off the same way they do on his show. . .
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was an entertaining read, although it seemed like the book simply contains the material that never made it into the TV show. If you expect nothing more going in - the book will not disappoint. If you are looking for something more - for example something like Jon Stewart's "America - The Book", you will be quite possibly disappointed.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Suck it, Colbert --- I checked this out @ the library!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5ohhh my goodness! maybe little kids in new jersey should make up a propaganda song about you, stephen!!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It's Stephen Colbert! In book form! This is totally hilarious and I especially loved his margin notes, which often answer questions in the main body of text or give a summary of a paragraph or just otherwise comment on stuff.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Colbert is extremely funny. But I know why his program is only half-an-hour. Too much of the same type of joke became a bit much in his 200 page book. My favorite part was the parents' rules for kids. too funny, but I just counldn't get through the entire thing before it was due back, even after renewing it!
