About this audiobook
A brilliantly funny look at the tumultuous recent past from the Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist.
Remember when everything was going to go to hell when Y2K struck?
That didn't happen, right?
But what did happen? To provide a little perspective on a really messed-up millennium (so far), the one and only Dave Barry slips into his historian's robe (it's plush terrycloth) and revisits the defining moments in our country's recent history. As an added bonus, Barry quickly-we're busy here-tosses in the complete history of the last millennium, covering crucial turning points such as the invention of the pizza by Leonardo da Vinci and the computer by Charles Babbage (who died in 1871 still waiting to talk to tech support).
Fellow Americans, the time has come to bone up with Barry as he puts the hysterical in history.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I cannot tell you how bad this is. No let me tell you, it's as bad as Donald Trump's hair.. Need I say more
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I know a ton of people love Dave Barry and always read his columns, but I never really got sucked into them. I thought I'd try out the audio version of this book and, while I did find it humorous, I wasn't laughing out loud constantly or anything. To be completely honest, there may be some truth in the fact that I don't know enough about world history or contemporary politics to get all of his jokes. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't completely in the dark, but with the way he mixes fact with fiction in his historical accounts, some of the jokes just went over my head. So, if you're a fan of Barry already, you're probably going to like this one. Otherwise, it's a toss-up.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a compilation of Dave Barry's annual "Year in Review" columns from 2000 to 2007 (with a bonus section on Y1K). As always, he hits the nail right on the head. If you're a fan (as I am) and you look forward to his Year in Review column every year, you'll enjoy this re-read of 8 years in a row. Good fun!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This little number comprises Dave's year-end summaries (i.e. some of his very best work) from 2000-2006, plus an amusing rundown of that other millenium, i.e. the one from 1000-1999. Although I'd read all of the yearly columns when they'd been published, I still enjoyed the chance to go through them in order. Yes, there's a patten Barry follows each year (a formula, if you're being picky), but his ability to revivify this form year after year is genius. This book would be a great gift for Dave Barry fans.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Hysterical as always. I don't follow politics as much as I should, so some of his jokes missed me. But there were places where my husband caught me laughing until I cried and then I forced him to listen while I read sections out loud. His jokes can be somewhat predictable, but that's comforting and familiar to me. I have been reading all of his books for years now and I look forward to reading his interpretation of news events the way I look forward to seeing and old friend.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Dave Barry's usual hilarious view of things, in this case a history of the millenium from CE 1000 through 1999, then coverage of each year from 2000 through 2006. Hard to sustain humor over the length of a book but Barry manages fairly well.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The only problem with this book was that I wanted more! This book only has something like six columns in it, that I had already archived on my own.
