TIP OF THE FORTNIGHT

Pause duplicate-file scan after set number

AllDup (www.snipca.com/49056) is such a brilliant duplicate remover that you could have devoted the whole of Issue 677’s Cover Feature to it, not just one page. One hidden option you didn’t mention was the option to cancel its scan after it’s found a set number of duplicate files. This can help you deal with duplicates in batches, so you don’t feel overwhelmed by them.

Open AllDup, then click Search Options ( in our screenshot) and look for the ‘During the search process’ heading. Now tick the box ‘Cancel search when certain number of duplicates are found’ and in the box below replace the default 999 with a new number. I normally select just because dealing with more than that in one go is too daunting.
