A sense of place

For my final article in this series, I am returning to Yorkshire, a county which, in the late 1960s, was home. I had undertaken a one-year teacher training course at Huddersfield College of Education and my wife, Pat, and I spent nearly a year in this fine old wool town. For someone who, at the time, had never been north of Birmingham, this was quite a culture shock. We also experienced one of the snowiest winters that I have ever witnessed.

My first picture (below) is reminiscent of this time and features a Black 5 locomotive on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. I have included this picture for two reasons. Firstly, I have a passion for steam trains andsecondly, but more importantly, because I wanted to show some of the considerations I make when using a photograph as reference.
