Having lived in the Wye Valley for so many years, it’s not surprising that I’ve found so much inspiration for my paintings in the area. I have seen it in all its moods and seasons and have been captivated by some of its striking and . However, it’s not always the glaringly obvious subjects that make for pleasing paintings. Simple views like a stand of boulders on the riverbank, a sunlit riverside walk or, in the case of the view I’ve chosen for this demonstration, an overgrown, derelict stone lean-to and wall, fronting a rather unkempt wood. I came across this view while looking through my photo library and have been meaning to paint it for some while.
