Napoli end 33-year wait

Hands up if you saw it coming. Against all the odds, this has been a successful Italian season, dominated by two generally unexpected events.

Firstly, there was Napoli’s utterly dominant, utterly feel good Serie A title win, arguably the most compelling of Europe’s top five champions.

Secondly, three Italian clubs – Inter, Roma and Fiorentina – made it to the respective finals of all three UEFA club competitions, recording results not seen since the early ’90s despite all losing in the finales.
