Turkey booked their place at this summer’s Euros after impressively topping their qualifying group, but recent friendlies have raised questions ahead of the upcoming tournament.
Coach Vincenzo Montella replaced Stefan Kuntz in September; the German was unpopular and most had lost faith that he could lead Turkey to the finals. Montella, who had cut his teeth in Turkish football with an impressive managerial stint at Adana Demirspor, rejuvenated the team with immediate effect.
The transformation stemmed from a strong tactical foundation, while skipper Hakan Calhanoglu emerged as the creative maestro and Montella showed his willingness to blood young talent. Real Madrid attacking midfielder Arda Guler andJuventus forward Kenan Yildiz have been introduced to the team with impressive effect. Nuremberg attacker Can Uzun got his debut recently and Besiktas forward Semih Kilicsoy could also find himself part of the squad this summer. All four are still teenagers.
