The Simple Guide to the English Premier League 2014-15

The most exciting league in the world, with all the top players, producing some of the best games you will ever see. Welcome to the English Premier League. The Premier League was formed in February 1992 with the first season being the 1992-93 season, which was won by Manchester United. The Premier League was a break away from the traditional First Division that had been in existence since 1888 and was the oldest league in the world. It consists of the top 20 teams in England, Welsh teams do participate, with Swansea City competing in the 2014-15 season, Cardiff City were relegated last season. The season typically runs from August to May with no winter break. The teams play each other twice, once at home and once away, completing a total of 38 games, the team with the most points is crowned champions. If points are the same it then goes to goal difference and then goals scored. If the teams still can’t be separated a playoff game takes place at a neutral ground. The bottom three teams are relegated every season and are replaced by the top two teams from the Championship and the winner of the playoffs. For the 2014-15 season, Norwich City, Fulham and Cardiff City were relegated and replaced by Leicester City, Burnley and QPR from the Championship. This adds to the thrill of the Premier League because any team involved in the Football Association can reach the top league. It is estimated that over 600 million people in over 200 countries have the ability to watch Premier League games every week. Just for the record I support Newcastle United and have done so for over 40 years. If you want to know about highs and lows, heartbreak and triumphs, controversy and disappointment ask a Newcastle United supporter, saying that I don’t have any regrets, 40 years not a single trophy but lots of fantastic memories.
