A Himi-high!

Ever since I started motorcycling in the early 1970s I’ve been an avid reader of AMCN. I’ve recently returned from a bike ride in Leh, Ladakh – fancy being able to ride a Royal Enfield Himalayan around the foothills of the Himalayan mountain range?!

My tour was 12 days in the Zanskar Valley – what an exhilarating experience. Like any good motorcycling Aussie, Khardung-La was on my bucket list. The highest road in the world, the altitude is over 5400m.

I hired a Himalayan for the day, they gave me a bit of a rat bike; no papers, no number plate, etc, but it was a perfect day for riding and the road is sealed all the way to the top of the pass. It is only 50km from Leh and such a pretty ride – the whole of the top of the pass is festooned with prayer flags. I staggered
