What is ‘Drift Week’? The idea of Drift Week is to turn drifting into an adventure that you will remember for the rest of your life. Visit multiple tracks, cities, and states all while driving your drift car on the street. If you go to YouTube and search ‘Drift Week’, multiple videos from the top drivers we all follow on social media will pop up — the likes of Adam LZ, Chelsea DeNofa, Luke Fink, Fielding Shredder, and Hert, to name just a few. Two years ago, this was how it started for me, watching, dreaming, and trying to work out how to turn that dream into reality.
I was initially looking at travelling to Klutch Kickers at the Freedom Factory, but after a quick message to Jimmy Oakes, he let me know that Drift Week 6 (DW6) was happening around the same date and that I should come over for that.
I then thought that would be too far out of my reach but decided to flick Aaron Losey (Lone Star Drift) a message anyway, thinking that he would never see it. Within an hour or two, he had sent me the application form, which I quickly filled out and returned to him.
Drift Week is an application-only event — you need to prove your driving ability; provide your social-media following; and if you have neither of these, your only alternative is if you have a rare or ‘cool’ car that you can bring along. If you make it past the first selection process, Aaron will then set up a time for a phone interview. There are lots more questions as he makes sure that you will be a good fit for Drift Week.
I didn’t want to do this trip solo, and Mac Kwok and I set about arranging our travels, but, due to! We caught up at the pub, had a few beers, and everything was booked.
