PENGUIN IN BOOTS
Californian penguin has been given a second chance at life after being fitted with a pair of prosthetic boots. Officials at the San Diego Zoo explained that the African penguin, named Lucas, suffers from a degenerative foot condition known as bumblefoot. The custom-made shoes are made from neoprene and rubber which help minimize the pressure on the animal’s feet as he walks. The medical team at the San Diego Zoo collaborated with animal prosthesis organisation, Thera-Paw, after various attempts of therapy and acupuncture to relieve the penguin’s pain failed.
