WATER BECOMES FIRE
Visitors to the annual Horsetail Fall event at a Yosemite National Park waterfall experienced a rare spectacle known as the “firefall”.
Multiple factors including water flow, the weather, temperature and the perfect amount of sunlight resulted in the cascading water resembling an erupting volcano. Often shaded by clouds, the wonder only occurs a few times every February. A representative from the National Park Service explained, “This unique lighting effect happens only on evenings with a clear sky when the waterfall is flowing. Even some haze or minor cloudiness can greatly diminish or eliminate the effect.” Yosemite Conservancy added, “The Horsetail Fall event is a natural phenomenon that has grown in popularity in recent years.”
