Iranian charged in alleged plot to kill former national security adviser John Bolton

The Justice Department says Shahram Poursafi tried to arrange the murder of John Bolton as part of an alleged plot to retaliate for the U.S. killing of a top Iranian general.

The Justice Department has charged a suspected Iranian operative for allegedly plotting to assassinate former Trump national security adviser John Bolton.

Shahram Poursafi offered to pay contacts in the U.S. up to $300,000 to murder Bolton, according to court papers unsealed. The Justice Department says the plot was likely in retaliation for the U.S. killing of top Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani in January 2020.
