Drawn to landscape

As a professional artist with over 30 years’ experience, I’ve seen a lot of art materials come and go and all for different reasons, but I’m certain that liquid graphite and liquid charcoal are here to stay. In fact they are growing in popularity and it’s clear to see why. They are innovative, offer something new that is more than a passing fad, and add dynamism to your drawings.

As an expressive artist, they are very important to me. In a world that’s constantly pushing colour they are refreshing. Black and white and all the tones between have a purity to them that adds real drama to your paintings. Personally, I think there’s far too much focus on colour in the market. When I think of the great masters, it’s their drawings that impress me most.

Exploration

Graphite and charcoal are the fi rst creative media I use in the studio to loosen up and explore creative ideas. I may draw for several days and explore different creative possibilities over a variety of surfaces letting the ideas flow naturally.
