Now scientists are discovering more about the complex relationship between complexion and diet. Many, believe the typical western diet is a major cause of wrinkles. In particular, Dr Perricone singles out our love of sugar and simple carbohydrates, such as white bread, as a problem area. He argues that a sugary diet encourages collagen fibres (which should keep your skin springy and firm) to stiffen in a process known as glycation, leading to visible ageing.
