What We Watch

I am watching: Season 1 of the Korean sci-fi series The Silent Sea on Netflix.

My take on this show: In 2075, Earth is becoming a wasteland as water resources shrink across the globe. A last-ditch expedition is sent to Korea’s decommissioned Balhae Moon Station, which was shut down after a supposed radiation leak left no survivors. But everyone on the mission and the ground knows more than they’re sharing. And while the work that was being done on Balhae could save Earth, it’s also worth an unimaginable amount of money. The show’s writing team really needed more scientific advisors, but their great storytelling doesn’t depend on secrets and surprises to keep your interest. And the lunar station set designs are worth studying.

In episode 7, assistant engineer Kim Sun’s (Lee Sung-Wook) wish of plunging into a pool of water again comes true in the worst possible way,
