SPEED IS THE ESSENCE

BODY: Integrated vertical handgrip as per Canon’s pro-level DSLRs, but it’s both smaller and lighter (around 425g lighter than the EOS-1D X III). One-piece magnesium alloy chassis and covers with weather sealing to the same level as the-1D X Mark III. For obvious reasons, control layout is relatively similar to that of the pro-level DSLRs and includes the Smart Controller optical touch-sensitive joystick integrated into the AF-On buttons to enable faster AF point selection than the conventional joystick controller (which is retained). All key controls – including the Smart Controller – are replicated on the vertical grip. Weight is 822g alone, and 1.15kg with the battery and a memory card.

For the first time on a pro-level EOS camera there’s a tilt/swing monitor (Canon calls it ‘Vari-Angle’) and also offers a big increase in resolution over anything we’ve seen before… now at 4.15 million dots. It’s a 3.15-inch TFT LCD panel that incorporates capacitive touchscreen controls, and is adjustable for brightness and colour balance.
