Magnesium alloy covers with weather sealing over a magnesium alloy chassis. The control layout is basically a new arrangement with a much greater reliance on customisable multi-function controls and only a few similarities with the higher-end D-SLR control layouts. As on the Nikon Z cameras, the top deck info screen is an OLED-type panel. However, the handgrip is deliberately more D-SLR-like in size and function. Curiously though, there’s no joystick-type controller for faster AF point selection, but this can be done from the touchscreen. Completely new – and pretty neat too – is a multi-function touch-bar (the ‘M-Fn Bar’), located alongside the EVF eyepiece, which is swiped either left-to-right (or vice-versa) to make setting adjustments for one of 40 assignable operations (including white balance settings, sensitivity, shutter speeds, etc.). Of course, the good news is that the EOS R is markedly more compact and lighter than the EOS 5D Mark IV and EOS 6D
