Déby died defending his country

A DAY after securing a sixth term in office, Chad’s President Idriss Déby Itno died of injuries sustained on the front line of a battle against rebels.

The 68-year-old came to power in a rebellion in the former French colony in 1990, and was in power for three decades. Election results on Monday showed that Déby had taken 79.3% of the vote in the April 11 elections.
